Why? Is it that much better than the X6800? It's a cheap and easy to acquire 3Ghz CPU for 1066 Mhz FSB. Although E5800 with overclocking up to 4 Ghz probably should be on par or slightly better, if very limited overclocking FSB potential is considered. X6800 has unlocked multiplier, so ultimately …

I have this board and it does not behave correctly with some PSUs and can just lock up in BIOS.

Only if it's а DOS Glide game which can work on Voodoo 2, but can't on anything newer. Voodoo 1 is 100% compatible with DOS titles and Voodoo 3 is just faster for anything else.

The ATI Rate128 VR is probably the cheapest and easiest to acquire from the list of 25.9 fps cards. Speedy/overclocked S3 cards with S3 Speed VGA tweak are easier to find.

I can still see faint vertical stripes though. Even some late PCI cards can show faint vertical stripes on LCD. Easy to spot on Windows 95/98 boot screen.

IDE disk on module or small PCB only SSD via adapter. Small SATA SSD are quite easy to find, since they actively used on printers and other stuff: Small capacity SSD PATA/SATA benchmarks

S3 actually had the same dumb idea and bought Diamond Multimedia, instead of investing additional resources to iron out all problems in Savage 2000.

I was surprised how good / how close the CMI-FM and the ALS-FM were Judging by recent ALS100+ discovery of true OPL3 clone, I won't be surprised to know that ALS120 just integrated that clone into main chip, similar to some Aztech and Creative OPL3 chips.
