If you're handy with a Dremel you may be able to make an adaptor for a current gen heatsink to the mounting holes next to the socket.

I don't think this is the issue here. To receive a tach signal the board would have to start up and spin up the fans.

You can try video memory test CE to find issues with VRAM. But if your GPU has a defect that prevents it from adressing parts of memory the test can not differentiate.

Given the gaming performance of Pentium Pro processors a PCI Banshee or Voodoo3 is probably the best solution that's still somewhat reasonable and period correct. They also usually have very decent 2D picture quality.

Huh, that either contradicts the manual or there's stuff going on that I don't know about. I had been wondering why they would put the jumpers in another order than BF0, BF1, BF2. Seems like that's the order they're in after all.👌

Thinking about this again, you could put a copper plate with a soft ~1mm thick thermal pad for electrical insulation into the socket so the CPU has more direct contact to the thermistor. Know what I mean?
