Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows)

Assuming the above patch is in-place, the WAV/CUE would looks like this (note the "WAV" type): And if you want (or need) your WAV/CUE MSF's to match that of the original BIN/CUE, then take the INDEX 01 MM:SS:FF values from the BIN/CUE and drop them in your WAV/CUE in place of the INDEX 01 00:00:00' …

Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows)

You are talking about this patch, right? https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=62203 If I understand correctly, this patch is not incorporated into the DOSBox ECE (yet)? Yes to both. The latest version of the DOSBox ECE when using the ISO/WAV/CUE format shows these strange numbers: iso%2Bwav. …

Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows)

... it should be noted that dosbox allows using the ISO/OGG/CUE format. But not ISO/WAV/CUE format. :( It's a little weird I think. The referenced working patch also addresses this. It transparency passes through the CUE's audio filetypes to the matching codec's backend, as opposed to expecting …

Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows)

Hello Yesterplay80, I'm sorry to bother you again. I searched for a bit and found this small patch: https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=38187#p341728. It looks like this patch brings support for separate sound files (not just OGG) to the DOSBox. If I understand correctly, in the current …

Re: DOSBOX eating up CPU

That sounds normal to me. When you set "100%", you're telling DOSBox to emulate as many dos-cycles/s as possible given the limits of your host cpu. On the other hand, setting DOSBox to emulate 3000 cycles/s is pretty easy for a modern host cpu (in this case, DOSBox needs about 100 MHz on a modern …

Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows)

Were some game cds were produced with wavs? Essentially yes; games eventually started storing large volumes of PCM music, effects, and speech in files instead of being limited to CD Red Book audio tracks. This allowed them to store more content at lower bit depths, lower frequencies, and single- …

Re: DOSBox ECE (for Windows)

Unfortunately, with BIN/CUE format the music tracks are not played from the beginning after hot swapping of the CD (I suppose DOSBox caches information about the locations of the tracks after start of the game). It is the main reason of my question. The MSCDEX interface plays red book audio tracks …

Re: DOSBox Feature Request Thread

Qbix, thanks for the thoughts and detailed explanation. If you want to kick around any of these non-coding ideas further, just shout! The more myself and others can help, the better. DOSBox has brought me much enjoyment, and I want the best for the project, in whatever form that takes - no doubt …

Re: DOSBox Feature Request Thread

Interesting; thanks. (I could read the middle link, but I'm "not authorized" to view the first and last). I share the same sentiment on all fronts. I would leverage the community 100% to draft the dual license terms and both setup and run the non-profit. I have no doubt there are people with all …

Re: DOSBox Feature Request Thread

Thanks for clarifying Dominus. The open source community in general has a history or being taken advantage of by shady or incompetent companies trying to repackage or bundle GPL software without complying with the license; when they're caught the Free Software Conservancy steps in to legally enforce …

Re: DOSBox Feature Request Thread

Yeah, it's just a preference when it comes to splash screens. When you see them a couple times, fine. When I see them hundreds of times then it's time to turn them off. I remember shareware bolting on ASCII adverts when you exit, but the golden-era for splash screens took off with Windows 95 …

Re: DOSBOX for Windows 3.1

This is the Dunning–Kruger effect in full display. And before you google it, keep in mind we are all beginners and have "unknown unknowns". I'm a professional engineer and developer - but put me in a room of Cordon Blue chefs, and I would surely be laughed out of the room if they watched me cook …

Re: DOSBox Feature Request Thread

95DosBox, I first used DOS in the mid 80s and swiched from command.com to 4dos in the very early 90s; and never looked back. I beleive it works well on DOSBox, so you might want to try that for a genuine and feature-rich command-line interpreter including customizable prompt. Regarding enforced …

Re: Seeking floppy image of Wing Commander 2; disk 2

in DOS
Do you own a genuine physical copy of the game? If so, can you post pictures to prove it so that we know you're not trying to pirate it? My understanding of Canadian, EU, and German law regarding the legal ownership of backup copies does not mandate the owner store their outdated and defective …

Re: High refresh rates in DOS ?

Most LCDs can do > 60hz at lower-than-native resolution. My 1080p does exactly 70hz in an aspect-corrected 1024x768, which is perfect for gaming in DOSBox. Yeah, the image isn't perfectly crisp if you get close enough, however the benefit of playing judder-free 70 fps in Wold3D and Pinball Dreams is …
