Re: Dreamblaster X2 on Japanese Computers

Damn, seems I had a flaky connection somewhere along the capture chain. Hence the speaker balance is off. This is a capture mistake, not the fault of the X2. The Dreambank while only listed as GM on the website is GS compatible from my tests, maybe not 100%, but good enough for most games. The GUD …

Dreamblaster X2 on Japanese Computers

Have been doing some testing with the X2 on my Japanese computers. Will post samples here as I upload them. All are done on real hardware. X2 is installed in Korg NS5R. 1. Super Street Fighter II (GUD 0.7) https://youtu.be/zLbQeKBKQvM 2. Die Bahnwelt (GUD 0.7) https://youtu.be/rHoT6JT_1gQ 3. Ghouls …

Re: Need Help on Choosing Roland SC-55

Considering what you already have, I see very little reason to buy another 55. Unless you are using a really good amp and speakers with very specific games, I highly doubt you will notice a difference between these and the CM-300. Save your money and save up for an X68000. 😀

Re: Roland CM-500 = MT-32 + SC55?

I'd actually say the FM Towns is the most difficult. People tend to think it's simple because of the Marty console and the auto-boot cd-rom games, but once you move past that, it's a huge mess of hardware that doesn't make any sense. For example, when you format an HDD, it actually saves format data …

Re: Roland CM-500 = MT-32 + SC55?

I'm nowhere near Tokyo I'm afraid. Still, let me know if you need anything. Been here almost 11 years now. 🤣 PC-98's main strong point is that it's the most affordable of the JP PCs, but game wise I find it meh. The X68000 is supreme, though the hardware costs are high.

Re: My sound-machine retro build.

Now I'm going to upgrade this system with Korg NX5R with wavetable connector inside :) - will see if it works connected via pass through in roland. Should work just fine. I currently have USB--->UW500--->MKS-900--->UM-550--->NS5R--->Dreamblaster X2, and it all works great. But a warning, if you are …

Re: Roland CM-500 = MT-32 + SC55?

Wow, SuperDeadite! You really helped me learn the basics of my MU-2000. I got it a few years ago and watching you use it in your (with lots of rewinding and pausing) vids was the only way I could figure it out. This past year I've watched your newer vids to help me better understand my UW-500. …

Re: Dreamblaster works in the Korg NS5R :)

Yes, the NS5R/NX5R have the wavetable header inside. But, you have to be careful as the internal PSU is a bit on the weak side. You can find old forum posts of people overheating and burning out their units due to daughterboards that draw more power then the PSU can handle. To install just have to …

Dreamblaster works in the Korg NS5R :)

Just got my X2 in the other day, and I can confirm it works perfectly inside my Korg NS5R. Makes a very nice combo as the Korg has internal channel splitting, so you can send some channels to the Dreamblaster and some to the Korg chips. There is even a handy volume knob to adjust the Dreamblaster's …

Re: VGA Capture Thread

These days I use an SC-512N1-L/DVI and an XPC-4. Not cheap, but the simplest combination for what I do. X68000 games use rather exotic resolutions like 768x512 at 31khz. Some games even switch between 31khz and 15khz on the fly (31 for menu, 15 for gameplay). And the XPC handles it beautifully.

Re: Roland CM-500 = MT-32 + SC55?

Regarding the CM-500, it was my first module ever. Found it in Hardoff for 2,000yen. If you can get one cheap enough, it's a great starter module, but for today's prices, it's limitations make it a hard recommendation imo. WTF??? Which HARDOFF???? I'll be there right now if I've known it!!! BTW, …

Re: Roland CM-500 = MT-32 + SC55?

Hi, I suppose it's time I finally register here. I am the same SuperDeadite from youtube. Living in Japan I tend to focus on Japanese games that many westerners are not familiar with. I have done a LOT of X68000 MIDI videos on my channel. I know this place is mostly DOS focused, but if you love MIDI …
