Might be that your speaker header output on the mobo likes 32 ohm or larger speaker impedences rather than 8 ohms. That seems unusual, no? Does your sound card have a PC speaker header on it? Adding a 1/4 amp slow blow fuse inline with the other fan headers on the motherboard would be a good idea.

Check the +12V line while under a heavy +5V load. Could be cross-loading problems with that PSU; low +5V and high +12V issue. Use a good calibrated DVM to catch the spikes if any.

Transferring the Z clip might be fine (I've never tried it), but I agree that heatsink isn't going to cut it. That black heatsink a fan and some needlenose pliers and some large paper clips might work using the two large mounting tabs on the socket.

The three point attachment clips should still work just do not use too big of a heatsink.
