Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

Upgraded a CPU from P200 SL23W to P233 SL27S. Did not see any difference in performance, as I expected=) But I just wanted to max out Socket 7 Intel`s CPU. Later I`ll add some more RAM and may be try some overclocking. https://i.imgur.com/fMM7SH0m.jpg https://i.imgur.com/Ni1h48Fm.jpg https://i.imgur …

Pentium 4 build choice

I`m planning to build a P4 based rig and have a couple of simple options: 1. Asrock P4i65GV Socket 478 + some P4 Northwood. 2. MSI g33m LGA775 + some late P4 Prescott. First option will give me nice Win98 support and more retro feel, but second is more flexible option with wide range of CPU support …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

But I have to run S3 Refresh every time the system reboots, is it possible to keep refresh rate settings? Save changes to autoexec didn`t help... Not sure, I only used that utility for a short time while testing the S3D version of Tomb Raider. Maybe someone else knows of a way to keep the refresh …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

It won't work for vanilla Quake since that's a DOS game. The approach I described earlier only works for native Windows games. I'm not familiar with Outlaws, but I'm guessing it might use some resolution that's not present under Windows desktop settings. An alternative approach would be to use …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

EDIT - just noticed that you're using a Virge for 2D graphics. In that case, disregard what I wrote about VBEHz below and try S3 Refresh instead. You should be able to reach 85 Hz with that, but probably not much higher. WOW! S3 Refresh is what I need, what a useful utility! Thank you very much! …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

Played some retro games on this CRT, it has really awesome picture compared to LCD. But have some questions. In 3DFX accelerated games I have 120 Hz refresh rate, there is such option in Diamond Monster settings. But in software mode games runs in 60 Hz. Is it possible to get 120 Hz in software …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

Nice, I can already hear the Win95 boot chime ringing out on that before you settle in to some mid-90s gaming. Nice find on that monitor. That whole setup just looks fantastic. Your all set for hours of awesome DOS gaming. Awesome case and nice monitor! Thank you guys! Boxed NOS crt's are my …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

Get yours anyway and keep brightness down while easily visible. silver/black models has 2 issues and they were all gone by then since they were manufactured between late 2003-2005. 15" had CRT cathode drivers in one IC improperly grounded (actually the manufacturer of that IC did not design this …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

This one is good model. I had beige samsung flat screen 15" model and lasted awhile but eventually degraded by 5 years but keep in mind by now their CRT life went downhill. PS: if one found a silver bezel with black housing monitors they are no good even new. How I know this detailed knowledge, I …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

Thoughts about perfect monitor again. Now I have an option to buy a new in box 17" CRT Samsung SyncMaster 783DF for a reasonable price. Still do not have a permanent place for such setup, but I can keep it for the future. https://i.imgur.com/mtAvuu2.jpg Can`t find much info about it, but i think it …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

how do people have room for desktop cases but don't have room for CRTs? it literally sits on top occupying no additional space I don`t have permanent place for it, so moving it around. It will be difficult to move it with huge 20 kg CRT=) As I sad, I`ll get a CRT as soon, as I get permanent place …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

Some Socket 7 boards allowing using FSB or multiplier jumpers' pins as Turbo button pins. So the button can be connected instead of those jumpers and it will work. Here is my MB layout: https://i.imgur.com/XJCpfPvl.jpg I don`t see how to connect it... To use 386 speed in bios disable CPU and …
