Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

how do people have room for desktop cases but don't have room for CRTs? it literally sits on top occupying no additional space I don`t have permanent place for it, so moving it around. It will be difficult to move it with huge 20 kg CRT=) As I sad, I`ll get a CRT as soon, as I get permanent place …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

Some Socket 7 boards allowing using FSB or multiplier jumpers' pins as Turbo button pins. So the button can be connected instead of those jumpers and it will work. Here is my MB layout: https://i.imgur.com/XJCpfPvl.jpg I don`t see how to connect it... To use 386 speed in bios disable CPU and …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

I`ve had some fun with led display jumpers and now i have correct "200" frequency. Too bad my motherboard does not support turbo button. Curent setup looks like this: https://i.imgur.com/k2WhAPil.jpg MS-DOS 6.22 and Win 98 installed, but I`ve got some more CF cards to have more operating systems, so …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

5:4 monitors are becoming uncommon, not rare but second hand market has more wide screen then not these days. I've got a few Dell 1704 FPT's from work free, Nothing fancy, They aren't quick and not true 4:3 ratio but I don't notice. already had 1 die on me (they have had 10+ years office use after …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

I have a chance to by a new in box Fujitsu SCENICVIEW A17-2 lcd monitor. I know it is not period correct, but it fits aesthetically and I can`t buy a crt monitor right now. https://filearchive.cnews.ru/mrtest/images/goods_gallery/105/35105_gallery_0.jpg https://www.cnet.com/products/fujitsu- …

And it's mentioned in his very first post. I think he means to put it not in rack, but inside the case. And to install NewQ instead of …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

Excellent news!! I'm glad all it took was just cleaning the contacts to restore it's functionality. Yep, I very glad too! You might just want to use a CF card as a hard drive and use one of these. https://youtu.be/hXk1AjRT2Pk Yeah, I saw that video=) Maybe I`ll get this one. But It looks a little …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

I cleaned every contact I could get to and now speakers works perfectly! Amplifier board: https://i.imgur.com/yymePpSl.jpg I shot a short demo of playing audio: https://youtu.be/g7FZldhcxZI I'd give my left "u know what" for that case! I assume you have a comparable CRT to go with it? No, I don`t …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

Great build, I had a very similar machine back in the day spec wise. Pentium 166MMX 32MB SDRAM diamond S3 Trio64V+ 2mb Diamond monster 3d 4mb Soundblaster AWE64 value 4x panasonic CD-ROM drive. Can't for the life of me remember which motherboard it had though. The case was a pretty standard m-atx …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

You just know the speakers are going to be tinny but who cares, flashy volume lights are great! Do they still work if you plug external speakers in? 3 digit displays are pretty rare let alone ones that allow you go above 199, for that reason think a 200-266 CPU is prefect for this case. Hate those …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

Great! But the CD-ROM is too new for this build. It is from 2005+. Correct CD drive for 1997 should have Audio-out with volume regulator, and Play button. Probably also it should be 8x max and without CD-RW reading support. I use only new parts that affect PC exterior. You are right, this drive is …

Re: 1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

Nice case. I would love one just like it in atx. Yes, I think it would be nice to build a modern sleeper-PC in it, if it was atx. What a wonderful find! You have excellent taste Thank you, sir! That case is awesome and now I want one. It's a great system spec wise seriously great job on it. How's …

1997 Pentium MMX Rebuild

Two years ago I built a nice and clean 1997 PC - https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=57816 But I wasn`t 100% satisfied with it. I wanted more period correctness, more 90`s spirit=) And recently, I was lucky enough to get a NOS desktop AT-case in box. So I decided to rebuild my retro rig …

Re: 1997/98 20 years anniversary build

Sweet build. Nice to see a long time project come together like this. I'm generally not very fond of beige cases, but this one looks really nice. Who cares if it's a bit modern, unless being period correct is really important for you. I think the flat screen complements the build too. It looks good …
