I wouldn't know why the BIOS has these things but a PCI based bridge requires two signals in particular for DMA to work, which are deleted on chipsets after ICH5. The same signals are also present on PC/PCI aka SBlink connector.

The datasheet I followed doesn't mention that they are reset with the GM and GS resets. It certainly survived all sort of MIDI files I tried so I think the setting will stick. EDIT: Thänk you very much ~

All difference on the 3D/XG card is in analog domain, but as I don't have that card I cannot really say more than that. AudiTrix has a circuit around output and line input to route it through a DB60XG board. I don't know the exact circuit but if it isn't configured right you would get some additional strangeness even when DB60XG board isn't attached.

From what I know, SC88 in SC55 mode isn't completely authentic. I have access to SCB55 and couple Dream based cards (SAM9233 with 1 and 4MB bank and SAM9733 with 4MB GS bank) and they are close enough that if you aren't intimately familiar with them all you aren't gonna tell the difference. …

Did you have to use /FORCEPNP option ? I don't think SETYMF would recognize the Mediatrix card due to different PnP ID from other YMF71x cards out there.
