Geforce MX440. Obviously most of those games aren’t glide exclusive. I remember Quake3 performance was significantly better on the MX (T&L).

Thanks for clearing that up. I’ll be interested to see if anyone finds a rom smaller than 32kb and who has the most bloated.

Interesting thread - never really thought about this. Can’t you turn Video bios shadowing off in bios? Or is that referring to copying the entire rom vs payload executed portion?

I read that Sims2 performance can be very video driver dependent, you may want to try a few different versions and compare.

I recently did a Win98 install without KernelEX and this was my impression: with Internet Explorer 5 about 85% of the Web is unusable. It took me a long time to even find a working Opera 10.63 download link. Using Opera 10.63, I would estimate 30% of the Web is unusable.

My vote would be not yet. Fermi drivers even support DX12, and a GTX480 is approximately equal to a GTX1030 in modern games.

There are several utilities, PowerStrip for example, that let you specify custom resolutions and refresh rates. Just be sure your monitor supports the resolution/refresh rate/timings because I've heard it's possible to damage a monitor by forcing settings that it can't support.

5960x @ 4.2ghz, 16gb ddr4, gtx980ti, ssd’s for win10 and game storage. It’s not the latest but I can’t justify upgrading yet, and most of the games I tend to enjoy aren’t very demanding like TF2 or Fortnite.

I think the cache ram is the most important performance upgrade. From reading old reviews in PC Mag it seems that ET4000 is already tied to VLB and offers pretty good DOS performance.

Tough to make a generalized comparison because there are many different models of both P4's and Celerons. Also the comparison will differ based on the type computing workload you are doing. If you have a prescott based Celeron D, then it has 256kb cache - if its a Northwood Celeron it only has 128kb …

PCI, if it were something like a 486sx-25 you might not see much difference but a DX4-100 can make good use of the extra speed in more demanding dos games.

It disgusts me a little when I see hardware that wasn't impressive at launch, being priced absurdly now. Nvidia's FX series cards for example, plus the same premium isn't being charged for comparable Quadro cards.

I wonder if this is specific to this board or that's general advice for any turbo button. I used to have an Epson 8088 (10mhz) with a turbo button and I used to toggle it all the time while running just to see the difference of 4.77mhz vs 10mhz. Never seemed to hurt anything. 😀
