I tried to install patch 227d and it complained about missing dlls. I added several before it error on a dll reference and I couldn't move on to the next error. All of them have something to with networking.

Zeckensack's Glide Wrapper uses OpenGL and is great with Geforce FX hardware. Definitely going to try that thanks. I would assume that like other opengl software, the bit depth is determined by your desktop settings? I believe it always outputs 32-bit color. But maybe it is linked to desktop color …

For Unreal, you want an alternate renderer. Both D3D and oGL are pretty poor, the game was designed with Software and Glide in mind, which is something to keep in mind with other UE1 games as well (UT, Deus Ex, Rune, Undying etc). All the PCI fans I have seen have plastic where the card edge usually goes and use molex or 3 pin fans. If paired with a passively cooled card, like a voodoo 3, I think its perfectly acceptable.
