How the AWE64 Gold card is configured thru Device Manager? It seems likely that the I/O addresses for the AdLib and MPU-401 aren't exposed to Windows.

I managed to fix the overbright issue by flashing another BIOS using shadow ROM with svbl. Luckily, this tool specifically supports the Triton chipset (Intel 430HX). Hello. This can be done by opening the AWE Control Panel, then clicking the "Devices..." button and lastly unchecking "Allow MPU-401 Emulation on this device" option. That will ensure that any external MIDI device connected thru the gameport will be used when running a DOS program within Windows.

Another vote for S3 ViRGE/DX 4MB. Since you have three of them, make sure that you use the best one you have as the BIOS version, memory clocks and image quality can vary. The other decent alternative in my experience that isn't a S3 video card is the Cirrus Logic GD5446 2MB.

Did you set DOS=HIGH,UMB line prior HIMEM.SYS and EMM386? Are both the DOS CD driver and MSCDEX (in AUTOEXEC.BAT) being loaded high using DEVICEHIGH and LH respectively? Gona didn't have the Radeon 7500 card to test with for his DOS compatibility list, but all of the ATI cards has scrolling problems with Commander Keen (that game gets often mentioned), Jurassic Park and Prehistorik.
