Re: Struggling with EMM and Ram (Win 98SE)

The only exception is if UMB is desired, otherwise don't mess with EMM when running a Windows 9x environment as intended. If problem arises with certain DOS applications, create a PIF shortcut with custom CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT settings. This is the most beginner-friendly way to get around …

Re: VIDEO BENCHMARKS (Original title: Settling the VIA C3 performance debate once and for all)

Also, while 133Mhz is stable, I don't like the heat that's coming out of the northbridge so I'm going to keep it at 1Ghz afterall. This is one of the reasons why I set the FSB/PCI to 124/31 MHz on mine instead of 133/33 MHz. With 133 MHz FSB (aside from the issue with the AGP @ 89 MHz), I had to …

Re: VIDEO BENCHMARKS (Original title: Settling the VIA C3 performance debate once and for all)

I have been recently tinkering with a Nehemiah 1.2A GHz on an ASUS P2-99 rev 1.12 motherboard, and I'm finding it way more versatile than my Socket 7 setup equipped with a K6-2+/450 overall despite lacking flexibility of the Ezra-T when it comes to 486 speeds. The motherboard has the ICS9248DF-39 …

Re: Struggling with EMM and Ram (Win 98SE)

Im trying to setup my win 98se pc to play dos games and before I would get an error saying EMM wasn't setup or something like that. So I did some reading here and found QEMM 97. When I install it though it only shows 256 megs of RAM when I have 700+. If I click on my computer and do properties it …

Re: SoftMPU project needs your help! (game & sound card testing)

in SoftMPU
The first game in the series, Comanche: Maximum Overkill , did support MT-32, so it would be kind of a downgrade if the successor to that game did not support either MT-32 or General MIDI. That specific game has a patch that adds support for General MIDI and makes the MT-32 option to work with any …

Re: DOS/Windows 3.11 (WFW) CDROM Sound Issues

in DOS
Yes, as long as you remove any changes in both CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT after installing the official drivers. I suggest keeping the changes done to environment variables (except BLASTER because of UNISOUND) for compatibility purposes.

Re: DOS/Windows 3.11 (WFW) CDROM Sound Issues

in DOS
I do get Windows 3.11 system sounds however - does that mean it is finding something somewhere? Or there is some sort of driver on there but it is the wrong one? Seems that you have a sound driver installed beforehand, likely the PC Speaker one unless I'm wrong. Which one of those drivers do I need …

Re: DOS/Windows 3.11 (WFW) CDROM Sound Issues

in DOS
The card in question. Vibra 16? As chinny22 mentioned, Windows requires drivers on it's own to get sound. The official drivers for the SB16 comes with those. UNISOUND will only initialize the sound card for DOS usage. Why is the card missing its components? Those components were intended for …

Re: Win98 SE Trouble Formatting? Read this

There is an updated FDISK that should work properly with HDD that has more than 64GB in capacity, search for 263044usa8.exe or the equivalent depending on the language. Any FAT32 partition equal or smaller than 64GB should work without issues with the FDISK included with the Windows 98 SE CD-ROM or …

Re: DOS Games on Voodoo 3

UMBPCI isn't an EMM and is dependent on the motherboard chipset, relying on shadow RAM to obtain UMB while maintaining real mode. The Audigy's DOS driver will never work with it since a real EMM is required. Do you have a non-Creative PCI sound card that has DOS drivers around? I see. Unfortunately …

Re: DOS Games on Voodoo 3

I'm not sure if there's a specific configuration of EMM386 to work with dos glide games or if I need to use another memory manager, but my Audigy 2 ZS won't work under dos without one. I've tried UMBPCI before and it wasn't recognized, but I could try it again with a different configuration if need …
