Re: Intel Ark drops native Direct3D 9 support.

in Milliways
Is old OpenGL 1.0 still working? and driver updates can affect it directly. So how is it now? AFAIK, nVidia and AMD cards still has the legacy functions when using the compatibility profile (older programs use it by default) in OpenGL. Haven't checked if the recent Intel's OpenGL ICD still has that …

Re: Intel Ark drops native Direct3D 9 support.

in Milliways
Is old OpenGL 1.0 still working? OpenGL doesn't work like D3D. In OpenGL, each ICD (including the shader compiler and T&L routines) is done entirely by the hardware vendor and driver updates can affect it directly. In D3D, vendors only provide the DDI and the DX libraries takes care of the rest. …

Re: PCI vs PCIe Interface for WinXP Sound Card?

PCI vs PCIe doesn't matter when loading any SoundFont onto the SB X-Fi, I used to have the PCIe version and there was no noticeable difference on that regard. As Joseph_Joestar said, USB joysticks and gamepads are more suitable for Windows XP and later unless you want to use legacy devices. Same …

Re: Table Fog & 8-bit Paletted Textures

Re: Limit DOS RAM memory (XMSDSK / HimemX / JemmEx), DOS RAM size limit

in DOS
Older Himem.sys versions from before DOS 7.x had a 16MB or 64MB limit, I vaguely remember. Yep, I didn't forgot about that. ;) Depending on the situation they can be used on newer versions of DOS. Very useful quick and dirty solution, but certain older versions consumed more conventional memory …

Re: Limit DOS RAM memory (XMSDSK / HimemX / JemmEx), DOS RAM size limit

in DOS
Himem.sys of DOS 6.x has a switch to reserve RAM for BIOS interrupt 15 hex. It's /INT15= . It is also included with later versions that comes with Windows 9x and it isn't really useful when it comes to limiting the amount of available XMS memory. The maximum value allowed is 65535 in KB and using …

Re: Slowing down dos games on a Dell XPS t450

Disabling the L1 cache on that PIII CPU will make it way too slow except for very early 90s games. Nevertheless, look for SetMul which can disable both L1 and L2 caches without having to enter the BIOS setup. Another option is Throttle , which isn't frequently mentioned but uses ACPI throttling …
