Hello. This can be done by opening the AWE Control Panel, then clicking the "Devices..." button and lastly unchecking "Allow MPU-401 Emulation on this device" option. That will ensure that any external MIDI device connected thru the gameport will be used when running a DOS program within Windows.

Another vote for S3 ViRGE/DX 4MB. Since you have three of them, make sure that you use the best one you have as the BIOS version, memory clocks and image quality can vary. The other decent alternative in my experience that isn't a S3 video card is the Cirrus Logic GD5446 2MB.

Using a separate ISA sound card for MPU-401 duties helps to get around the hanging note bug. Another way to get around this is with FixMPU if you are eager to install the DreamBlaster on the SB16 CT2940.
