It has been repaired. Two capacitors and the RAM were changed. Three games have caused problems so far. Super Street Fighter 2 after the 1.5 patch, which enables MIDI. Are other instruments perhaps used in the XG setting or tuned differently without using the additional XG options? Or does it not work that way? The XG MIDI stuff is still new to me, but I'm happy to learn.

I`m not sure, looks like 586 kb free RAM ist the best i can get. I don't know why I'm even interested in troubleshooting DOS games in Windows 98. Windows 98 is not the solution, but the problem. 😉

Yeah you have enough free memory, just like me, but only in pure DOS. Dune II need close to 600 kb free RAM. And 1 MB (?) of additonal XMS to work properly. (speach) Edit: 596 kb^^

SS7 System here, and yes its starts, but even with the patch i`m getting error messages and now a freeze. I never played Final Fantasy anyway. Heard a lot about it, but i would have no idea how to play it. Still Thx, worth a try.

Tried it unter Win98: Best i can get is: "The planet Arakis..." then silence. Only music. 586KB free Memory. Thats why i am using real DOS and Win98 SE.

Nice topic, wanted to ask the same thing. I'm not musically inclined, so does General MIDI and XG sound exactly the same? In DOS? Is there a difference in the sound when running from Windows? I only have Settlers II to test at the moment.

There is a new version of VSBHDA out which now supports 16-bit protected mode games. I`m no expert, sorry, is this for any use on older AC97 Systems?

RAM was broken. Works again. And don´t use the Windows Media Player on Win 98 with the DB50XG, use something like midiplayer_55_bse Thx.

Yeah i know! Hard to get P330 MIDI Output without setting it. Maybe i found some new 30 Old Year bugs. Not the first time. A tip from me: If you are not sure whether it is real MIDI sound: It always has a reverberation. I hope that's the correct word 😉
