Re: Duke Nukem 3D over floppies

I put the shareware version onto a set of floppies and now I'm kicking alien ass :D Thanks for all the help and support. Also, I will consider that. I have a parallel/serial card in the second ISA slot (there are only 2 on this 486) but it's not necessary (I rarely ever use those connectors, and the …

Re: Overdrive

Alright. So the Overdrive seems kind of cool! So it is a true Windows 3.1 experience/system, right? I do want to leave it in there if it is, because without it, I'm pretty sure Duke Nukem would not run correctly :P I did some research and it has a 486DX core. Essentially it's an Intel 486DX 50 MHz …

Overdrive

I opened up my Presario 425 recently and I found out that the previous owner put an Intel 486 Overdrive DX20DP50 in it! Seeing as the main i486 CPU is surface-mounted, it is likely disabled. What I am wondering is, what exactly is the Overdrive? Is it basically just a normal 486 CPU but with extra …

Re: Duke Nukem 3D over floppies

I tried it without disk spanning and obviously it didn't work, but I will try it with and see if it does. Is there a version that will run on Windows 7 that will make files the Windows 3.1 version can read? Or is it just a set of standard .zip files when using disk spanning?

Duke Nukem 3D over floppies

I have wanted to play DN3D on my 486 machine for a while, however I have not been able to as my only means of transferring data over to it is via floppy. I took the largest file in the shareware version of DN3D and split it into 5 files, which was a painstaking 1-hour process, and when I used HJ- …

Re: Is it safe?

You know what, now that I think about it, if it stopped radiation there would be no vents on the monitor. *facepalm* It suppose it to be fine. If the tube was damaged I don't think it would be looking as good as it does 😜

Is it safe?

So, I have a Compaq Presario 425 coming in the mail today. Awesome retro computer. I only have one concern with this particular computer - it has a built-in CRT as you know. I tend to get neurotic about things, and this time it's CRTs and radiation. This 425 does have a crack in the plastic frame [ …

Re: SB16 w/ Vibra16S: OPL3 sound not working

Alllright - I think just putting it into my 486 and plugging some speakers in shouldn't kill it. XD I was just concerned if it was say, hot-plugging or something. But as far as I know you cannot control any line of the ISA bus (any low level things like that) in a consumer/business grade 486 machine …

Re: What sound card should I get?

When I was 7 the only DOS commands I knew were win and echo. LOL I can definitely get snobby when people pick on the Core 2 Duo. People just love their i7's way too much to realize that the Core 2 Duo is still a usable CPU (not for gaming) today. (Also, in my opinion, the IIGS is better than the …
