Looking at it from a time perspective i'm not surprised that you are not getting good performance. Pentium 3.06Ghz: Late 2002 Geforce 6600, maybe similar to 9700 Pro?: Late 2002 GTA: San Andreas: Mid 2005 More than 2½ years was a long time back then.

Nope, I didn't have to do anything. The voodoo 2 architecture actually support 1-3 TMUs and 3dfx used one for the banshee and two for the Voodoo 2. A version with three didn't make sense at the time, dual texturing wasn't even implemented in games yet.

I accidentally destroyed some of the pins on a TMU once and the Voodoo 2 card worked fine using just one TMU. I am guessing something similar might be the problem for walterg74. The non-active TMU didn't get hot while playing. I gave up repairing it, those pins where too small for my skills.

Considering the age of the cards I would replace them. They can get a bit harder with age. At some point the pads wont "spring back" into the original form and you cant be sure how good the contact between the chip and the heatsink will be once you re-attach it. No point risking anything, pads …

GPU-Z is reading the memory on the FX 5900XT wrong, it is actually 350Mhz which is also called DDR 700. So the actual memory bandwidth is half. Still faster than the 6800XT but it will pull ahead in newer titles (like you saw with F.E.A.R). Didn't know they made 6800XT's with that slow memory. It …

Didn't the Socket 4 OverDrive processors need an adapter on some motherboards? Never seen one of those, could be someone downgraded the CPU at one point and thought the adapter was needed for the motherboard.

If you dont have 3D options in the advanced display settings then I dont think the drivers are installed correctly. Try to reinstall using the device manager. You might also try something like the 5.40 driver, I believe that is the one I use (cant remember why though).

Ah, the VIA option. The 1.6 BIOS seems to be the latest but doesn't mention CPU micro code updates. Maybe the motherboard wont recognize the coppermines probably. The VRM supports the lower voltage options though. I would install a coppermine processor and measure the core voltage with a multimeter …

Is that a QDI BrillianX or similar? The VRM supports voltage identifier pins from 1.3 to 3.5 volts so you should be good. There is probably a late 99 BIOS which will identify coppermines properly. What is the BIOS ID string?

I only buy stuff that I'm actually going to use. Not that I wouldn't mind having things on display, I just don't have room. It feels like a shame just to put it in a box in the cellar. Better let someone else enjoy it then.
