When i get home, i can do it. I have P266MMX with 256MB of ram. Though, i load XMS memory manager and then create a ramdisk on the top 192MB so that windows after that only sees first 64MB of ram. (which is the part that motherboard can cache)

Just install a fresh win98 in vm and bring the autoexec.bat and config.sys from the vm into your machine. If necessary (in case you have overwritten them) bring other files as well, like himem.sys and emm386.exe

No, they are not serial. Both the Amiga and Atari ST use a simple bus mouse with no protocol and no data processing done by the mouse itself. Don't use DOS' himem and emm386 with windows! Use the ones in Windows folder.

chkcache always takes a lot of time, if you have a alot of memory... And 32MB is quite a measurable amount.

You can have total of 8 SIP memory modules there. They are like SIMMs, just with pins. I think, you can even solder pins on SIMM module and it works.

@cookertron, your board just might tolerate EDO ram enough so those would work without a problem. Best way to know - try it out, once you have those ram sticks in your hand. 😀

Any 72pin ram probably works. (There are EDO and FPM type memories, in general both work and i even have mixed them sometimes. Remove the smartdrv line (Or put REM in front to comment it out) and try then. This is probably the one consuming 2MB of XMS. While you do want smartdrv in general, then being that tight on RAM, for duke3d, you have a choice of having low speed access to HDD or not being able to run duke3d at all …

Maybe something wrong with EMS/XMS memory and dos4gw restarts on some fault? Just an idea as i have no proposal to how to check or confirm it... (Maybe replace dos4gw with dos32a and see what happens?)
