That sounds like a solder joint issue to me, caused by thermal expansion of the motherboard... 55c is hot, but not 'freeze the computer' hot - these CPUs don't start throttling their speed until 75-80c, so likely a motherboard issue. :( yeah my suspicion too. behind the retention bracket is …

i've settled on playing in 320x400 and the framerate is nice with the K6-2+ 550 using a Trio3D/2x. i have also discovered that the AWE32/AWE64 soundtrack is buggy AF? but using yamaha XG general midi from the AW744 (only under windows) is brilliant.

my banshee died so i have just installed a trio 3d/2x (2mb agp) in my MVP3 board (shuttle hot591p) and it seems to run just fine without any crashes so far. 640x480 3d is out of its reach, and 300x400 was only just playable but very fun to play on something so weak and puny. it displays dos games …

i'll be putting the k6-2+ in the machine tonight and i'm going to try the s3 virge cos its a decent dos performer and see how resolutions go. @derSammler univbe/vbe extensions - i'm unsure, i assume no. I'll look into it. cheers

i tested it on my p3 voodoo and it still ran pretty bad. especially when you got close to a sprite eg the gravestones in the first level. i think i might look into the unofficial glide patch thingo.
