Re: Planet X3 Open Source Edition

As of yesterday, you can download and build version 1.1.0, which incorporates the following changes: Implementation of the two previously reserved EGA modes (i.e. 640x350 3-color and 320x200 16-color) Fix bug in LUT patching for tile set overrides Fix bug in radar LUT (existed since PX3 OSE 1.0.0) …

Re: 640x200 4c on regular CGA board possible?

That would indeed be a very nice and simple mod! Bit 4 or 5 of the palette register would be a good one to choose as it otherwise has no effect in text modes. Since only half of the bit patterns are needed (you can get the others by swapping the foreground and background colours) you could use half …

Re: 640x200 4c on regular CGA board possible?

I wonder if it's possible to have 640x200 in 4 colours on a regular CGA card. Assuming that 32 KB were physically available (as piggy back) and that no aliasing happens (BC000-BFFFF range is an alias of B8000-BBFFF, the primary CGA page). And most importantly, how would the memory layout look like …

Re: Q(uick)Basic Screen Modes

in Milliways
IIRC, all of ATI's CGA-based Graphics Solution cards were initially advertised as "Small Wonder", even if the card itself did not always say that. You can find links to more information and a small proof-of-concept bitmap viewer in one of my earlier posts.

Re: Leading Edge Model D non-standard CGA mode

The Model D computers support a special extended graphics mode (EGA): 640x200 The Schneider/Amstrad PC1512 has such a special 640x200 16c mode, too. PCem/86Box support that machine model. http://dosdays.co.uk/computers/Amstrad%20PC1000/amstrad_pc1000.php Wasn't the PC1512's VDU an Amstrad ASIC, …

Re: Sound card too quiet

If you have a multimeter, check the continuity between pin 11 of LM324 and pin B5 on ISA edge connector. I do, but i never tried anthing like this on a running pc. The card is also not really accessible. You are not supposed to do that while the PC is running. Take the card out, do the continuity …

Re: TTL video capture

AFAIK, the Cypress chip in those cheap logic analyzers that some have used for TTL video capture can technically do output, too, provided that you feed them appropriate firmware. However, the jitter introduced by the sample clock, which is usually derived from 48 MHz, would be even more of a problem …

Re: Planet X3 Open Source Edition

The original tracks (for MT-32 and SC-55) have always been available as part of the commercial digital download package, namely as ordinary MIDI files as well as MP3s. The build system of the Planet X3 Open Source Edition, which obviously comes without artwork, pulls everything from the folder of …

Re: Planet X3 Open Source Edition

Addendum: This is a minimal update package containing just the engine binary, engine manual and a few support files: http://usermo.de/files/planet_x3/updates/PX3JAN23.ZIP. Copy the content to an older Planet X3 disk and you get most new features, but no MIDI, no modified text mode and no "six …
