Re: Epson ActionNote 500C

Here is a pic of the original display panel: IMG_5400.jpg It actually looks better in that picture than in real life. Very severe shadowing. New caps will clear this up. Hi, I seen that you received worked windows 3 copy, it is amazing! This is original system installation? I asked because I have …

Re: PhoenixCard Manager 4.02 for DOS/Windows

I see that link has some hosed files with a 404. Here are the drivers for that same laptop. Tested the download and it all checks out. Just unzip and go to the PCMCIA folder. You'll find all the files intact there. Cheers! https://www.helpdrivers.com/notebooks/Gericom/Outofdate_Serie/Asus_P6300/ …

Re: PhoenixCard Manager 4.02 for DOS/Windows

https://www.elhvb.com/mobokive/edwin/laptops/Gericom/alte-Modelle/Asus_P6300/Asus_P6300/Pcmcia/index.html Thank you! I took a look at that and it unfortunately looks like the exact version I already had, which is incomplete as far as I can tell. The PCMSS.exe is missing. I will give it a try though …

PhoenixCard Manager 4.02 for DOS/Windows

Does anyone have a download for this? I can’t seem to find it anywhere. I did find ONE download for it on this forum, but it was an “evaluation copy” and is missing the PCMSS.exe file (when restarting the machine after installation it says it can’t find it). I don’t know why these PCMCIA utilities …

Re: My "ultimate" Dell Inspiron 8000

Here is a zip containing the ISO image for the Dell DSTCD. Let me know if it works! I have heard those 1GHz chips run pretty toasty. That's really sad your old motherboard died, these are generally pretty reliable, but I guess the heat from the 1GHz CPU was too much for it. Glad you got it replaced …

Re: My "ultimate" Dell Inspiron 8000

Another small update: Since I replaced the shell on this laptop, the service tag on the bottom no longer matched the one in the BIOS. So a few weeks ago I finally ran across a Disc I had with the DSTCD utility that I thought was gone forever, but it was in among a bunch of other CDs, so I made an …

Re: My "ultimate" Dell Inspiron 8000

I'm very happy. The laptop runs much better now. Getting my Windows Me/2000 dual-boot reinstalled was time consuming, but it was well worth it. I also have it set-up with Acronis OS Selector now instead of the built-in Windows loader, so now no matter which partition I boot from, the boot drive is …

Re: My "ultimate" Dell Inspiron 8000

Okay, so I got the 60GB drive installed and it's a great improvement for sure. It's still not going to break any records, but the speed increase is very noticeable. Here's the drive before I installed it, a 60GB Samsung IDE drive. I've had good luck with these Samsung drives and this one was dirt …

Re: My "ultimate" Dell Inspiron 8000

As I recall the Speedstep functionality on these machines is not dynamic but set at POST. If the machine boots with the power cable connected then the CPU runs at full speed. If the cable is out, then the lower speed is selected. To change speeds you have to reboot. That is correct, it's one of the …

Re: My "ultimate" Dell Inspiron 8000

If you upgrade the HDD, I would get an IDE to m.2 SSD adapter and use that instead of a slow as dirt spinner. I definitely want to do that at some point, although for now I opted for a 60GB 5,400RPM drive I found for dirt cheap, which will be a massive improvement over the old 4,200RPM 30GB drive. …

Re: My "ultimate" Dell Inspiron 8000

This machine now has the full 512MB of RAM! I had an extra 256MB module and was debating what to put it in and decided to put it in this 8000 since I use it the most at the moment. And also, a small correction I want to add to the OP, is that the UltraSharp LCD I don't think is actually a true IPS …

Re: My "ultimate" Dell Inspiron 8000

Well, the Inspiron 8200 I bought arrived and it is in great shape, so good that it replaced my "main" 8200 and I just moved a few of my better components over to it from the old one, such as my LCD, graphics card, HDD, etc. So, since I parted my old 8200 out, that left me with a good set of speakers …

Re: My "ultimate" Dell Inspiron 8000

Posting a long-overdue update for this machine: Not long after this post, I found a 256MB PC-133 module and upgraded this machine to 384MB with it. I still want to go to the full 512MB eventually. Then I reformatted the machine and rebuilt it with a Windows ME and Windows 2000 dual-boot, instead of …

Re: Epson ActionNote 500C

Hello, I recently bought a laptop like this, can you please tell me what capacitors needs to be changed, for the LCD? Hi, I can't recall what the exact values of the capacitors were, however there is 9 of them on the back of the LCD panel (the silver aluminum ones). There is also 1 on the backlight …
