Re: PCMCIA Sound Cards

I found a way to get use of my Yamaha pcc10xg card (which is windows only MIDI card) in DOS games...in a way. It tuned out that there is Win9x port of VDMsound driver. And it works with Yamaha card in DOS session in Win98. Yet in some games music sounds strange/slow. I suspect it's due to CPU load. …

Re: IBM 16-bit PCMCIA Audio Adapter SB compatibility

Frankly, I still think it's the same chip. In both PCDEMO and TPDEMO there are exactly the same recording settings, that are supported by the CS4248 chip (which is register compatible with AD1848 chip). Unless they used two different chips with exactly same capabilities, sampling rates and bit rates …

IBM 16-bit PCMCIA Audio Adapter SB compatibility

I. There is a sound card built in IBM Thinkpad 755c laptop. It's a card based on Crystal Semiconductor CS4248 chip, it has no SB native support, requires DOS drivers - TPAUDDD.SYS , and works in DOS with it's proprietary audio playback program - PCDEMO.EXE . It comes also with VDD (Virtual Device …

Re: PCMCIA Sound Cards

Does the driver give any error message? Could you try the sample config.sys file from the manual? And maybe another game... The driver reports that everything is OK and lists the resources that have been set up. I just checked setups in GTA1 and Heroes2 (in Dosbox for now) - both ask to specify DMA …

Re: PCMCIA Sound Cards

I'm sorry to clutter up this topic with my Wavjammer quest. I don't mind if the TS or moderators move everything to separate thread. I'm just windering if anyone has actually made the card work in DOS with games that support it directly (i.e. not Adlib, but digital sound)?

Re: PCMCIA Sound Cards

Some more experimental data. I installed Cardsoft (release 5.30.10) drivers. The new thing now is that if I use WAVJAMMR.EXE - it passes all tests in diagnostic program. Abuse still does not start, but setup does not hang during sound test, but doesn't make sounds either :) Still no sound in Adlib …

Re: PCMCIA Sound Cards

Yes, I tried the /c=games switch. But the problem is that only WAVJAMMR.EXE supports this switch. And it still does not work at all. Even in adlib mode. With WJSSENAB.EXE enabler the card works fine as Adlib; and shows some signs of life at F40 port in WJ native mode. In Abuse setup it produces some …

Re: PCMCIA Sound Cards

Well, here are the config files. Most of the lines are REMed. I tried different cobinations with/out emm386, CS, SS. config.sys DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS rem DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=C800-CFFF rem DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE 2048 X=D000-D7FF DOS=HIGH,UMB rem DEVICEHIGH=C:\AUDIODRV\ES1868.COM …

Re: PCMCIA Sound Cards

It's an IBM Thinkpad 360CE attached to 3545-001 docking station with a ESS 1868F sound card in it (drivers were not loaded). I still have to try the WJ on the laptop without the dock. Maybe there are some conflicts there anyway. Not sure about the chipset. DOS 7.0 (W95) There is a mess in config and …

Re: PCMCIA Sound Cards

So I finally received my Wavjammer card. It's working fine in DOS as Adlib music source, however I did not manage to set it up for the games that support it directly. There are two drivers for DOS - WJSSENAB.EXE and WAVJAMMR.EXE WJSSENAB.EXE requires only Socket Services loaded. Diagnostic program …
