From my personal experience, dying CCFL backlight is a bigger issue with those old monitors. Very difficult to replace as well, unlike the capacitors...

Found another motherboard — Shuttle HOT-597. I like that it’s ATX and as far as I understand, it was considered one of the fastest SS7 motherboards at the time. Also bought a K6-3+ CPU to go with it.

The last PCI slot and the first ISA slot are combined, you can use one or the other. So the total number of slots is 7, this motherboard will fit any standard ATX case.

There are no marks on the crystal because Katmai Pentium IIIs were marked on the outside of the plastic case. IMHO, the only way to know for sure is to plug the CPU into a motherboard.
