IT and Fast Tracker surely does the mixing in 16 bit, It makes a big difference. To improve the sound quality, increase the volume with + / - Keys when you are on a module or increase the Global volume directly. Volume in the Option menu is changed using a Mouse, or using the /V:xxx command line, …

I'm not sure that code is "valid" -- when you write a 16-bit word to a port, the low byte goes to the port and the high byte goes to the port+1. You are right, as the Address+1 is another register, it will fail. The only way is to build hardware for this.
