Re: AAAAAAUGH! (Redguard)

Thanks for the clarification, Paul. In a way, I feel relieved 😉 As for the desktop depth, no, I'm using a 32 bits color mode. Tried in 16 bits and still got the software OGL fallback. The game works accelerated in fullscreen, so it's not a big deal 😉

Re: AAAAAAUGH! (Redguard)

Interesting topic. I just got Redguard and gave it a spin. 1. In window mode, Redguard inexplicably forces itself into software OGL and runs really, really slow indeed. 2. In fullscreen mode, I get an error message ("Screen mode change failed") but pressing OK makes Redguard load normally and the …

Re: RE: TR1 and ambient music

About the looping title tune in the tutorial level: not sure whether it's intended or not (the PSX version is completely silent in the mansion), but I too have this behaviour. Bug or feature? :) About the crash when selecting "new game" from within the tutorial level: I can reproduce it too. Not a …

Re: carmageddon with glideos

Paul, I remember having this problem from time to time in TR with Glidos 1.19. It rarely occured, though, and it always seemed perfectly random. I even tried your standalone pollpipe.dll but then, the slow motion happened everytime I launched TR  However, the problem seem to have …

Re: Tomb Raider Gold no atmospheric music??

Nicht> Aah, now my turn to be puzzled ;) Forcing digital playback definitely doesn't work on my system for anything DOS related. It works fine with any 'recent' app (TR2, Gens, Winamp, Media Player, etc) but will produce nothing but silence with apps like TR (DOS and Glidos), Magic Engine, Anex86, …

Re: Tomb Raider Gold no atmospheric music??

WinXP? Could be anything. Two possibilities come in mind: digital playback is enabled (it's incompatible with Glidos and DOS in general), or the audio cable is missing (thus preventing the analog playback to work). And by 'audio cable' I mean an audio cable between your sound card and your CD-ROM …

TRUB audio CD - A New Hope

Hi Paul! Stubborness pays after all :D May I bring the SAPUCDEX thread to your attention? I was able to make further tests in plain DOS + SAPUCDEX with both TR and TRUB. In short, I can confirm that the two audio environmental tracks present on the Unfinished Business CD are indeed ingame music and …

TRUB audio CD

I gave a try to plain old (ie, no Glidos) TR and TRUB with low level CD support activated and pointing to SAPUCDEX instead of MSCDEXNT. Lo and behold, it worked perfectly :) For the record, I just ran into an initial issue about virtual drives that had been previously brought up by someone on this …

Re: What is OpenGLide?

OpenGlide is an open source implementation of the 3dfx Glide 3D API used by Voodoo cards before the advent of Direct3D and OpenGL APIs. If I'm not mistaken, Glide was loosely based (as its name suggests) on OpenGL. GLiDOS specifically uses OpenGlide as its Glide emulator. Can't tell much more about …

Re: Tomb Raider Crash in Windows XP

The TRUB CD has a folder called 'Original' where you can find patches for various 3D cards; two of them are the generic 3dfx (1140735 KB, dated 02/97) and the Voodoo/Rush (873739 KB, dated 06/97) ones. IIRC, the third one was a Voodoo 2 beta patch released by Eidos some time earlier before the Rush …

Re: Tomb Raider Crash in Windows XP

The very same symptom happened to me a couple of times, too. If I remember correctly, it was indeed at the end of the first level. Thank Goodness I had saved my game right before crossing the door; thus after the freeze and a force quit, I could load my savegame up to that point and finish the level …
