Well, it got here a few weeks ago now, but I haven't messed with it at all. I just can't get excited about a Pentium that would be slower than a AMD 5x86 that I could build. 😉

Make sure you have a -5V rail for those ISA cards. Lots of PSUs have dropped it.

AudioPCI emulates a 16-bit Ensoniq Soundscape, fyi. One of the few DOS PCI TSRs that get you 16-bit audio. Actually, Live! and AudioPCI may be the only two cards with TSRs that do 16-bit? And it's actually basically the same TSR anyway. Both do need EMM386. The Vortex1/2 TSR only does SBPro but …

The only issue is that the DOS TSRs for these PCI cards usually cause instability on some level. Some games will be ok, others will lock up. And I've had serious problems with getting ISA cards to work alongside those TSRs (even ones that don't need TSRs themselves.)

Does DMA really benefit DOS at all? I can understand that it might if you have a UDMA controller, a fast HDD, and a fast sys. I don't know if the UDMA controller itself will configure for the proper UDMA speed. So maybe it gets you out of PIO4 (16MB/s) and up to UDMA xxx? However, it seems to me …

I've found that my Athlon 64 3000+ in my big notebook is a little over 2x faster than this EeePC at 1000 MHz. Going by a Quake timedemo. With the same compile optimized for a Pentium M 🤣. Poor little Dothan CPU misses its 2MB cache I think. The A64 is an old Clawhammer with 1MB L2 @ 1800MHz.

Actually, on the Eee900 it starts at 900 MHz. There is an option in the BIOS for "power save mode" which puts it at 630 MHz and undervolts everything. On "performance" mode, it starts at 900 Mhz and I've found that it'll do 1000 MHz fine. On power save, it can only handle 750 MHz oc.
