Re: TIE Fighter CD experience with DOSBOX

Oh bummer. The VIA VT8235 sounthbridge doesn't have DOS drivers....VIA only supplies DOS drivers for 686A/B. So, that eliminates running TIE in pure DOS with any sound. I doubt I could get a USB joystick working either. Inside Win98 I can get sound SBPRO audio out of the southbridge since the …

Radeon VESA & SVGA

in PC Emulation
I was trying to set up Win98 and VDMSound for it. Decided to just try out TIE Fighter without sound to see if the SVGA would work. Nope, it's a corrupted mess. You can sort of see the game (it doesn't lock up either) but it's like you're seeing slices of the screen all stretched out....very odd. I'm …

Re: TIE Fighter CD experience with DOSBOX

It's almost not playable really. If I put it in VGA it's super playable, but SVGA is just so much more demanding. I just installed WIn98SE and am going to play with it in there. I think native VESA will work fine in 98, and DOS32A should make it easier to get up and running. Oh, and I found DOS …

TIE Fighter CD experience with DOSBOX

Ok, I've spent many hours messing with TIE Fighter and DOSBOX. I'm using the latest CVS compile from the Unofficial DOSBOX Forum . Here's my DOSBOX.conf: [sdl] # fullscreen -- Start dosbox directly in fullscreen. # fulldouble -- Use double buffering in fullscreen. # fullfixed -- Don't resize the …

Re: Yamaha SoftSynthesizer S-YXG50

I threw on headphones and played a little TIE Fighter. Yes, the Yamaha S-YXG50 is absolutely obviously superior to the MS synth. Hell, it's probably equal or better than the Synergi 8MB SF2 I upload to my 8MB SB32 for DOS games. I think the variation, chorus, and reverb that it applies really helps …

Yamaha SoftSynthesizer S-YXG50

I'm using DOSBOX on my laptop which doesn't have any snazzy midi capabilities (without getting a Audigy 2 NX or Extigy: not an option.) I've been messing with the DirectX Microsoft GS Synth and also trying to get Yamaha's SoftSynthesizer S-YXG50 to work. I have yet to get anything except the MS …

Re: Ensoniq sound card in DOS

in PC Emulation
Ensoniq's Soundscape cards didn't need EMM386. The AUDIOPCI, a very cheap chip which Ensoniq created to try to cut costs, started that. In fact, Soundcapes didn't even need a TSR of any sort. They just ran an init prog that uploaded firmware to the card's RAM for the onboard processor to run. :) If …

Favorite ISA Sound Cards

in PC Emulation
This is one of my favorite pieces of hardware from DOS times. The hardware wavetable MIDI cards just shocked me when I went from my SBPro to a Ensoniq Soundscape. Doom was unbelievable, TIE Fighter was so much more powerful, etc. It was amazing. The best part was the interactive sound that game …

Re: Ensoniq sound card in DOS

in PC Emulation
A Sound Blaster PCI 64 is an AUDIOPCI. Ensoniq's AUDIOPCI will definitely run in DOS. Creative bought out Ensoniq partly for their DOS driver which emulates a SBPro almost perfectly. Creative couldn't get it working. Heck there was a special connector on some boards for the freak AWE64 PCI that …
