Re: Alpha version of Direct3D support

gulikoza, I replaced STTNG AFU's ancient DOS4G with DOS32A :) DOS32A comes with a utility that will unbind an existing extender from a DOS app (friggin amazing!!!). You are right, the STTNG.OVL file contains the extender. It is an executable as well. So, you get the DOS32A package from http://dos32a …

Re: Alpha version of Direct3D support

Ok, I gave your new build with D3D a shot. I'm playing Star Trek A Final Unity in Dosbox. It's the only way to get the game stable on today's systems. (I don't even think pure DOS bootdisk would work.) Dynamic core crashes the game on startup so I'm using normal core. Your latest Dosbox build from …

DOSBOX Coding and the Future....

I am curious about how the inner workings of the emulator work. Is it mostly assembly? Can we get some boosts from SIMD operations from SSE/SSE2/3dNow/MMX/Altivec? I bet there are some huge opportunities for optimization considering a N64 emulator runs faster than DOS games right now!!! :pppt: How …

Re: Star Trek: A Final Unity on Windows XP

in DOS
Anyone ever figure out how to get this game running stable? I can stand the sound problems, but not a crash every 3 mins. I'm running it in XP with VDMSound. I also tried VPC 2004 but it won't even start in there....just kills VPC with some odd error.

Re: Phantasmagoria 2 Problem

in DOS
It works great in pure Win98. It also will run in VMWare under 98. It may also work in Virtual PC for Windows XP. VPC is really very good, emulating a SB16 in DOS without any special drivers and a S3 Trio with VESA 2 support!

Re: TIE Fighter

My main problem is really with the sound. I'm having a very difficult time getting it to start. It seems random, sometimes it just runs and works 100%. The other 30 tries, it just sits there with DOS4GW loading. Here's the log: @I - 10:23:48.158 - JoystickController Polling thread cancelled @I - 10: …

Re: OT: DOS compatibility sound chips

in Milliways
You guys should just pick up a quality DOS card on Ebay. They go for soooo cheap these days. None of the PCI Sound cards really do a decent job. My Live! uses the old Ensoniq ECW wavesets for DOS Midi, it's pretty bad really. Wasn't good on the AudioPCI, isn't good here. I have a Ensoniq Soundscape …

Re: TIE Fighter

I've been having problems on and off with TIE Fighter using General MIDI. Sometimes it loads, sometimes it won't (sometimes it's 1 in 50 tries it will work). I've found that disabling music in the setup program fixes the problem so it must be a problem with the MIDI emulation. I'm using all the …

Re: TIE Fighter

Hmm, can't seem to edit my last post.... Anyway, has anyone gotten TIE Fighter CD to run at 640x480? All I get is a bunch of garbled nonsense (which does garble around if i move the joystick, so it is doing something) Man, if this thing had good VESA support it would be nearly the end-all to the …

Re: TIE Fighter

Well, you can just get 'em from http://www.hammersound.net just go to sounds/soundfont library/collections. I haven't gotten anything from there for a long time so there may be some new stuff but my favs are the Synergi 8MB (cuz it sounds awesome for the size) and the 50MB Taji Generation 4 SE ( …

TIE Fighter

I just want to thank the author for writing this piece of software. It is simply amazing. I think WinXP now has better DOS Audio support than DOS did! I admit there are some quirks to getting everything working, but it really wasn't much. Heck there wasn't even any rebooting (ie DOS DAYS!!!!) I just …
