Re: List of known Thin Clients/Laptops/Chipsets with SoundBlaster support for MS-DOS games !

I was ONLY talking about the "CP" serires. Not CPXXX. So the M233ST etc... Those are all considered CP series machines (because, you know, they all contain CP in their names and use the same C-series bays and accessories), and technically, the CPM and the CPiDs are the same exact chassis - same …

Re: List of known Thin Clients/Laptops/Chipsets with SoundBlaster support for MS-DOS games !

The Dell CP series are great dos laptops. Also the Libretto's are great for dos as well. T. The Latitude CP line are not all good DOS machines. Only the CPM and CPiD, which has the Crystal CS4237B would qualify. The CPiA/CPiRs are Neomagic AC97 only, and the CPx models are ESS Maestro/Allegro based …

Re: Athlon 4

I think I found the perfect way to get a sub 1ghz Athlon, sure it's a palamino core but it's got an unlocked multiplier and my 900 goes down to 500mhz and tested it all the way to 1600mhz, best $9 bucks I ever spent, bonus is it's only 1.5v so it's not as power hungry as a desktop chip You can also …

Re: Why DOS died...

All MS Dos 4 had was the gui file manager thingy loading up first. As did MS Dos 5. This was optional. So I'm confused with the MS Dos 4/Topview comparison. MS Dos 4 failed because it had a few major problems which are well documented. One reason I went to DR Dos. Topveiw was just a gui tool on top …

Re: Why DOS died...

@ragefury32 - i never thought that MS-DOS 4, if it had been a success, would have been the last version of DOS. Like, c'mon. :D And let me remind you again, as discussed earlier, Win9x did exactly, what MS-DOS 4 could have done years earlier - it deferred the adoption of WinNT based op. system for …

Re: Your saddest retro computer pictures, a feel bad topic

Take a look at the small chip that’s on this laptop motherboard - on the left you should see an SL4GH Pentium III Coppermine 600MHz mobile BGA CPU (it’s upside down in this photo). Right next to it is an Intel 440ZX-100M northbridge, and directly under it you should see a chip labeled ADP3421. …

Re: Why DOS died...

If MS-DOS 4.0 would have been a success, the movement towards Windows NT based operating systems would have happened a lot later. And we might be still living in similar era like we did during Win95/98 vs WinNT/2000 times. But as of today, DOS has one major drawback - it does not support concurrent …
