I'd go with GUS Extreme if that's the one with ESS chip (sb, sbpro, gus compatibility) + Awe64Gold (awe, sb16 compatibility) and then you have it all. And you don't need different boot options, can have them both initialized at the same time.

s478 is the best for w98 build in my book; more than fast enough for any w98 game at max settings and very compatible, like P3 on steroids.

Although you can probably do it, it doesn't mean you should. It will work significantly worse on your machine than W98. But maybe it's better for you to find out on your own. 😁

WTF? You have to plug power into Audigy? Didn't know that. Also, don't own one. I do own X-Fi but not sure about plugging power connector to it...

I'd use CTMouse instead mouse.sys and SHSUCDX instead of MSCDEX. Never had any compatibility problems with it. Also, do you really need that display.sys and country.sys lines? I like to not use that and leave default code page so ASCII and ANSI art doesn't look like rubbish. Oakcdrom.sys is ok, but …
