Re: Voodoo 2 SLI & Z77 MB & W98SE problems

in Marvin \ Video
Thanks for all that info! The 2D card is running with the generic VGA driver, there isn't a driver for W98. I tried with newer DirectX version, 7.0A, 8.0, 8.1B, and it didn't make a difference. I'll try installing the Loew drivers, KernelEx and see if it helps. Right after I reinstall W98, as I just …

Voodoo 2 SLI & Z77 MB & W98SE problems

in Marvin \ Video
Hello, The motherboard is an Asrock Z77 Extreme4, with 2 PCI slots (via some Asmedia PCIe to PCI bridge). 20240229_163606.jpg If a single Voodoo 2 card is installed, regardless of the PCI slot, it works fine. P1.jpg If two Voodoo 2 cards are installed (with or without the SLI bridge), right clicking …

Re: Dual Slot 1 440FX build

I didn't want to have the case fans running at full blast all the time, so I got this PWM+ARGB hub: S23.jpg And a Noctua NA-FC1 fan controller: S25.jpg I should have first checked the case fans. They were all 3 pin, and weren't compatible either with the Noctua controller or with the hub thing. So …

Re: Dual Slot 1 440FX build

I built one of these computers back around 1998-99 I used the Intel Motherboard and Pentium-ll@333mhs Dual CPUs 64mb SDRAM and Dual Fast SCSI hard drives. ( 4gb each ) I remember it was a little loud because of the SCSI hard drives. I had installed Sun Solaris but the Motherboard also supports …

Re: Dual Slot 1 440FX build

And I managed to remove the heatsink from the heatspreader. Torx really doesn't feel right, I almost stripped one, but a number 2 hex driver shoved in far enough is perfect. I could reuse the screws/rivets with no problem. S18.jpg S19.jpg Now there's fresh TIM between CPU-heatspreader-heatsink.

Re: Dual Slot 1 440FX build

@mln It's a bit too late, I just got the case :) Maybe an external SCSI drive? @ChrisK Thank you for that! That's the best option before doing damage to these CPUs. I removed the fan and measured the bearings. Each fan has two of them, and they are identical. If anyone has this CPU and wants to …

Re: Dual Slot 1 440FX build

@H3nrik V! You're right, the Obisidian is already sagged. I'll make some kind of support for both it and the S3. @luckybob The jumpers are set correctly. I thought those rivets look like a torx would fit in there, but was afraid to break them off while removing. I'll remove them when I maintenance …

Re: Dual Slot 1 440FX build

Regarding the case, it's a NZXT H7 FLOW RGB. I'd rather go with this instead of a period correct case. It will result in a clean build, with very good airflow and it's very easy to work on, all panels and many elements can be removed without any tools, and cable management will look nice :) S11.jpg …

Re: Dual Slot 1 440FX build

For 3D acceleration, this Quantum 3D 200SB seems a good match for the dual CPUs: S6.jpg Sound card is this Vibra 16. It's the only sound card I have, and I'll probably upgrade to an AWE32. S7.jpg Storage: CF to IDE adapter, plugged directly into the MB: S8.jpg And this Adaptec 2940UW SCSI controller …

Dual Slot 1 440FX build

The purpose of this build is to make a nice system, using mostly parts that I already have laying around. Motherboard is a Tyan S1682, dual Slot 1, 440FX chipset: S1.jpg CPUs are two Pentium II Klamath, 300MHz, 512KB L2 cache: S2.jpg For RAM, two of these EDO sticks, 60ns, 64MB, ECC : S3.jpg The CPU …

Re: Voodoo 2 4444SX

This was an absolute pain. One important thing, as I said earlier, the RAMDAC provides a video clock, the FBI provides it back. For non-SLI operation, the clock generated by the RAMDAC can be directly used. For SLI operation, the clock coming back from the FBI needs to be used. Just by trying to use …

Re: Voodoo 2 4444SX

At 800x600@60 the FBI still outputs 24bpp to the RAMDAC, even in SLI, as it was expected. There also seems to be something wrong with at least 1 TMU on the master side (it's electrically identical to the right side, which works fine, so either some bad soldering or bad TMU/RAM). At the moment the …

Re: Voodoo 2 4444SX

First SLI test, no TMUs enabled: S4.jpeg The image looks quite broken, which is odd, as it's running at 800x600 (which should be 24bpp, and only 24bpp is implemented in the FPGA at the moment). I expect only 1024x768 to be forced in 16bpp. When the FBI outputs 24bpp, it makes two 16bit transfers ( …

Added support for 640x480 and dynamic resolution switching: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=56O484nYDag For now 640x480@60 and 800x600@60 are implemented. I'll add support for 1024x768@60 next, and higher refresh rates at a later date.

Re: Voodoo 2 4444SX

As the V2 4444SX and V2 HDMI add-on cards are, there's no option to inject audio. But it could be implemented in another HW revision. Preferably I2S. Edit: Adding support for other resolutions and dynamically switching is a pain.
