Re: What game are you playing now?

Ultima III: Exodus (PC) Another day, another dungeon. I mapped out the firs three floors of Doom and finally earned enough gold to max out my Cleric's wisdom stat. I traveled to Ambrosia, spent the 7400 gold, and now I'll be able to explore deeper levels of the dungeons thanks to getting access to …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Yeah, I can't see this one taking too much longer to finish. It seems massive at first, but the land of Sosaria is actually quite small and, once you get going, exploring the dungeons is pretty quick. The game starts out pretty brutal, but once you make a bit of progress your overall power begins to …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Ultima III: Exodus (PC) Getting pretty addicted to this! I was afraid that getting the Mark of Kings (which allows you to advance beyond a certain level) would cause some havoc with the level-scaling enemies, but that hasn't been the case at all. Land-roaming enemies seemed to top off in difficulty …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Ultima III: Exodus (PC) As mentioned earlier in this thread, I had put my playthrough of the NES version of the game on hold—while it's a good port with charming graphics and a great, moody soundtrack, I just found it annoyingly slow to play. Ultima III is a pretty repetitive game to play, …

Re: Soundblaster and RolandMT sound problem

in DOS
I know what you mean, I do the same thing with my DOS PC; if I can't get a game working I'll spend an hour troubleshooting it, looking up stuff, etc., really obsessing over it until I can get it working. Also, as you've found over the past few days, once you solve a problem with one game it tends to …

Re: Soundblaster and RolandMT sound problem

in DOS
I think you should focus on one thing at a time. If every game works but one or two, instead of installing weird drivers, you should instead focus on what is possibly wrong with the game that doesn't work. You should forget completely about Roland and general MIDI, these options are not meant for …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I've got all the old Ultimas installed on my DOS PC with "Ultima: The Reconstruction" mods. I do love the enhanced music. It sounds nearly as good playing through OPL as General MIDI. And the speed fixes are awesome - no need to mess with setmul and underclocking. Of course, I'm not sure when I'll …

Re: What game are you playing now?

This doesn't really count as "playing" per se, but I spent a couple hours tonight getting a few games working on my DOS gaming PC. Ultima II: The Revenge of the Enchantress The GOG version plays fine as is, but you DEFINITELY want to install the fan-made patch for this one, even if just to disable …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Day of the Tentacle This is one I played extensively back in the day (using a pirated copy from my friend... sorry giant megacorporation!) but never completed. I'm not really in the mood for any complicated RPGs, and was getting annoyed with both Skyrim and The Witcher 3, so I decided that now is …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Wasn't in the mood to play anything that requires 1) extensive note taking or 2) reflexes, so... The Witcher III (PC) I am having a really hard time getting into this game. The graphics are beautiful, and I typically like this kind "down in the dirt" gritty fantasy stuff (and in fact really like the …

Re: What game are you playing now?

It took me about 10 hours to get to this point... Yikes! I was expecting the intro to be a few hours long, 10 hours is a bit much for me. I'll put it on the backburner for now, to revisit during a slow work period. --- Realms of Antiquity (PC) I was able to spend another hour playing this Friday …

Re: Legend of Kyrandia

in DOS
I just installed the other two games to check, and unfortunately they are both just data files with SCUMMVM.

Re: Legend of Kyrandia

in DOS
SScropio is correct, the GOG release of The Legend of Kyrandia is unfortunately just the data files packaged with SCUMMVM.

Re: Ultima VII Frame Limiter Patch

I just tested this on my actual DOS machine (P133) and it works great! I found a setting of 10 to be just right, anything lower seemed a hair too fast to me, though that may be based on my experience playing the game back in the day on a very low spec PC haha.

Re: What game are you playing now?

Kingdom Come Deliverance I'm a little over 12 hours in and I feel like I'm just at the beginning still... Thanks for posting your impressions. I'll have to give this another shot. I love the focus on historical realism, but the on-rails intro really soured me on it. I've heard that it opens up a …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Realms of Antiquity (PC) With apologies to Pillars of Eternity and the other isometric "throwbacks" (term used lovingly), the true CRPG renaissance is now upon us with three full-fledged, deep CRPGs released for actual retro hardware (but playable on modern PCs through emulation of course)—Realms …
