Re: SC-55 stopped producing sound

If you are using it connected to the gameport of a sound card, something may be muting the line in on the soundcard. I've noticed this with Might & Magic III/IV, but it may occur with other games? If you are using it on a modern PC with USB-MIDI, never mind 😀

Re: What game are you playing now?

There is indeed lots to like about this game - I was right into it back in the day. I've tried to play it again a few times recently and the cheesy dialog and voice acting were a bridge too far unfortunately - it was billed as an Oblivion killer on release I recall! I remember the marketing TW at …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Operencia : I just finished this game, I did a respec once towards the end of the game when I knew how the game worked better but I didn't need to respec for each dungeon. I agree though that the game is just OK, not a great game. I also agree with you about fixed encounters. It's interesting you …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I wasn't really in the mood to put any effort into playing games this weekend, so I just fooled around with various games. Two Worlds: Epic Edition It's tough to find a "so bad it's good" game; with movies, you can get a lot of entertainment sitting for 90 mins through something that's technically …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Nice. I actually tried to play Bard's Tale on my Apple II when I was a young teen but never got into it, but think I can really sink my teeth into the trilogy remake. Ultimas 2-4 were my thing during that period. It was only later, as a college student that I got back into RPGs and started up with …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I definitely don't mind! Thanks! It sounds like you've played a lot more RPGs than I have. Any others (either old or modern) stand out to you? I don't think I've played and completed more than you have! Since you enjoyed the latter Wizardry titles so much, I'd definitely recommend The Bard's Tale …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Thanks! I'll add those to my list. I've still got a pretty decent backlog of turn-based RPGs on my to-play list, including Arcanum, the Avadon and Avernum series and The Bard's Tale Trilogy. If you don't mind, I'd like to give my thoughts on these games :) Who knows, it may help you to decide which …

Re: What game are you playing now?

I felt exactly the same about the combat system. It's also why after finishing Baldur's Gate, I've put off BG2. I transferred my party into it and have it installed, ready to go, but every time I finish a game and start deciding on a next game, I pass it up. I'm a turn-based snob. Speaking of which …

Re: What game are you playing now?

@badmojo - I don't really consider it dedication, it's just my idea of entertainment. :) I really enjoy classic RPGs. Classic RPGs are interesting to me in that they are more like "projects" than games in a way. It's a weird comparison, but starting a new classic RPG is a lot like starting a new …

Re: Your oldest favorite computer game?

@shamino (nice name btw :)) The PSX ports are excellent, and are probably the closest to the PC versions of all the ports. You can set the interface to English in each of the games, the level layout is identical to the PC versions (the NES versions have some altered levels), and overall they play …

Re: Diagnosing MT-32 MIDI connection

Great news! I'm glad to hear it was just a cable problem. Don't forget to boot up Secret of Monkey Island and listen to that title theme... it only uses the default MT-32 instruments, but sounds absolutely fantastic. It's my go-to track for showing the MT-32 off.

Re: What game are you playing now?

Sam & Max Hit the Road First off, Sam & Max is a beautiful game. There are plenty of unique animations and the backgrounds are fantastic. It's got a nice soundtrack too, though the real audio delight here is the voice acting; I typically turn voice acting off in any game I play (even modern ones), …

Re: What game are you playing now?

Dark Forces Played through missions 2 and 3. Mission 2 is frustrating because like 90% of the level is completely useless; but because you wouldn't know that the first time through, you end up searching through a bunch of useless buildings just to find absolutely nothing. Then you turn find the …
