Guitar distortion produces tons of sustain with varying complex harmonics in the waveform, which is far from trivial to simulate. Is it Linux or Windows that has issues with low-latency audio? That might a big point on why this doesn't exist on a Pi. MT32-Pi isn't Linux, it's running bare metal on the Pi.
