Sorry it took me a while, the test bench was busy with another project of mine :-/ EEPROM reset successfully. Page-write command sent. The output of subsequent orphinit /vd is *exactly* the same as the one I posted earlier (forex), byte-for-byte, confirmed using FC (DOS file compare). What now? :)

Tried on a different 386 board now - FOREX/UMC based. Debug output attached; this time it seems like it can see the ESS - but not in the PnP card list, and after trying a couple of times it gives up. Interesting times :)

IMHO this is a blessing in disguise LOL that MX chipset with it's 8kb of internal cache is kinda bleh - had one at some point in the past 128kb full power cache system is needed LOL LOL LOL If I could find a board like that which likes my TI CPU and manages to enable the internal and external cache …

The 286 on which it *works* is a C&T SCAT board, 12MHz CPU. The 386/486 on which it *fails* is linked in my post above. If I have to rip that machine apart again now and replace the motherboard I'm going to be more than a little bit annoyed (but not at you, obviously) :D

I just plugged that C&T BIOS into the JSC board after I got the 72pin socket soldered on, and it works as expected. However, neither turbo switch nor LED seem to work at all. I didn't even try the switch. It's not something I use a lot :) I'll do that when I get the boards back. I'll be installing a 4.something volt battery once I get around to measuring properly. The onboard battery seemed to be leak-free but I'm pretty sure it has no juice left.

This is an awesome board. It'll work fine without the proprietary VGA. Performance is really quite excellent. That other eprom is the recovery bios. There should be a jumper to activate it.
