it's discussed in the compaq facebook group but i think that compaq did something where the boot sector/seek is off by 2 bytes or something silly like that. this is why you need to get a compaq install floppy to generate a bootable hard drive. Thanks for the reply. I have already tried two different floppy drives. Both had their original belts completely worn out and I have tried two different new belts in each drive, with no luck. We used these for a good number of years in the the mid 2000's. I just want to warn you that they were manufactured right in the middle of the capacitor plague era and ours died that way. (They run hot and they are compact). Cool looking device though.
