Yamaha and ESS are great sound card, in my 486 I use YMF719. Both S3 virge and S3 trio are good choice, S3 trio is maybe a bit faster in pure DOS.

Which GPU are you using? Unfortunately I don't own a infrared thermometer so I can't really tell if it's getting to hot TNT2 125/150MHz core/memory. Just for the test I removed JP11 jumpers at all and no change, the PC works, in 3DMark 2000 I get the same results, temperature rises to 75°C (today …

Interesting, with setting 1-3,2-4 63°C, with setting 1-3,2-4 again 63°C, JP13 is set to 3.3V.

Some time ago I got for dirty cheap GA-5AX (rev. 5.2) MB, K6-2 500MHz, 128MB RAM, 20GB HDD, FDD, CD and some other stuff, but had no free case. At last my first ever SS7 PC is ready, video TNT2 Pro, audio ESS688, Maxdata case (a bit newer than the other parts, but it gets harder to find pre 2000 …

Dell Latitude C840 works with 1600x1200 too, but the letters are too small for my old eyes 😀

I have Dell Latitude C840 with GeForce4 440 Go 64MB, it runs nice in XP, but in Win98SE there is a problem with video driver, it does not install. The problem is that even in Omega driver GeForce4 44o GO is not listed in the NVAML file. So here is modded file, that works just fine with 4.14.10.4403 …

I have almost the same Compaq DeskPro 2000 and mine battery still holds charge. Try to search the external battery by Copmaq PN, I think it is 4.5V and you can use 3x1.5V AA/AAA batteries. Filename batt.jpg File size 71.55 KiB Views 2001 views

BR2335 is rechargeable lithium battery, give it some time, maybe it will hold some charge.
