My 1990-2000 gaming rig.

It's been a while but I've learned lots over the past 2.5 years and have since built multiple vintage PC's. It can be an expensive hobby if you don't have access to people's old computers My dream vintage PC finally completed earlier this year: CPU: Pentium III 900mhz/256k cache/100mhz fsb RAM: …

Re: Flashing 3dfx bios

I am having the same issue you had but even with booting with an ATI PCI card it still refused to flash until I used the modified 2.15.07 file from another post, can you share the 21512SD.rom post that worked for you please? https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DgPo2mrddr9RpEVYhtUdD-F-S1Mn2dZp/view?usp …

Re: Random system errors with DDR5 mobo

The memory was not sold as overclocker type because of inexpensive price. Just typical memory rated for 1600, no where the wording says it is 1333 by default and requires XMP to use 1600 which is factually incorrect. I was trying to find DDR3 1600 memory locally and could not get good choices back …

I thought that was recommended by Asus to be disabled in the mobo BIOS since it's an Asus BIOS bug and/or mobo hardware issue? Is it running the latest BIOS? Yes, I've updated each time they released one. I just updated to the latest today. I don't mind turning it off, I just think its weird and …

Random system errors with DDR5 mobo

Hey guys, I don't know if anyone has had this experience but I own an ASUS Prime Z690 motherboard with DDR5 5600 RAM. With XMP set to II in the bios. I noticed that I would get random blue screens of death in Windows 11, however if I go into my system bios and disable PCI express native power …

Radeon 9800 Pro chip replacement.

Hey guys, So I was given this ATI 9800 PRO to test for someone, but I noticed upon inspection that a very tiny chip with a heatsink attached was falling off. Does anyone know what this chip is for? Is it a power regulator? Is there a resource I can use to find out which chip I need to replace it? I …

Re: Flashing 3dfx bios

Success!!! So I ordered an ATI Rage 128 XL from ebay (Cheapest PCI card I could find). Its an original chip on a new PCB made in China. Unfortunately the card only works on 3.3v PCI slots and my ASUS P2B slots are 5V. I knew this was probably going to be an issue once I did some research and a guy …

Re: Flashing 3dfx bios

Did you backup the original BIOS ? What size is it ? What size is the image that you tried to flash ? Also, what is the EEPROM brand and part number ? See also https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=77153 EDIT: If you tried flashing a 64KB BIOS image into a 32KB EEPROM, it might explain what …

Re: Replacing VRAM on Voodoo 3

My big recommendation: find a qualified person to do the job. If you are asking how to replace a chip, it means you have no skill to do it. do some training on dead/useless boards before... I know how to do it. There were some pads that were in bad shape and lifted so I had to repair those. Pads …
