Re: DDLINK: Easily move files between/To/From DOS systems

in DOS
The original post was about adding protocol documentation for a small utility that facilitates file transfer like FTP. Just a note ... DDLINK is NOT FTP :-) yeah! I said that! (-: Keep in mind that this is a DOS program, most FTP clients I've used for DOS are simple command line tools (I'm sure …

Re: DDLINK: Easily move files between/To/From DOS systems

in DOS
I've spent some time determining which byte values are/are-not blocked in FreeDos: COPY COMn: file and have adjusted my bootloader accordingly... I just posted a new Version (1.7) of DDLINK which can "bootstrap" better with FreeDos! Dave Dunfield ::: https://dunfield.themindfactory.com or: "Daves …

Re: DDLINK: Easily move files between/To/From DOS systems

in DOS
Does anyone happen to know how to reliably enter an END-of-file character in the FreeDos console during a COPY/B from the console? DDLINK can Bootstrap itself to another system via the serial port. It does this by (eg: COM1): > CTTY COM1: <- User has to do this > COPY COM1: DDLBOOT.COM transfers a …

Interesting program! Going to give this a try at some point. Our LAN back in the 90s was mainly IPX, as many of the DOS games we played used this. We used Kali Chat to transfer files, which worked ok but wasn't the most convenient way of doing it. Just copying entire folders over with Win95 …

Re: Retro Rig Photo Thread

You can see almost all of my "retro" systems at "Daves Old Computers". Lots of pics and description. In the process of downsizing and moving to a more suitable location, I've passed most of these on to new homes... But here are couple which are NOT on the site: As part of above mentioned downsizing, …

Re: DOS virtual filesystem

I move files to and from various DOS environments all the time, using a little tool I wrote years ago called "DDLINK". DDLINK is free from my site (below) and performs decently fast file transfers over Serial (up to 115200), Parallel or LAN (both much faster). It's small (15k .COM) and needs only a …

> Thats why TCP/IP won.... TCB has a lot of nice advantages for a multi-site network, but as a couple others have pointed out, DDLINK is a completely different animal than any such "standard". DDLINK was designed to be a very simple way to move things around quickly betweem systems that may not have …

Re: DDLINK: Easily move files between/To/From DOS systems

I rarely need full networking in DOS these days... but getting files to/from for example my ImageDisk system (which has to be DOS as it accesses the floppy controller directly, and in very non-standard ways) - As some disk images can be well over a meg... network really helps - DDLINK works very …

Thanks, Never tried it -... just from "looking around" - FastLynx 3.3 - Not free - Big! - the "demo' I found is 1.2M (DDLINK is 15K - my download DDLINK.ZIP is 37K, but that includes some documentation and source to a .C program to help "figure out" the protocol). - FX33DEMO.EXE contains "This …

Re: DosBox BootfloppyDisk

Just posted another update - supports "virtual Hard Drive" and a few other improvements! Dave Dunfield ::: https://dunfield.themindfactory.com or: "Daves Old Computers" -> Personal (near bottom)

Re: DDLINK: Easily move files between/To/From DOS systems

If you're able to run a VM, you're able to run Netware in there, and that's the best way to network DOS and old Windows to modern systems I think. DDLINK differs from most other DOS "networking packages" in some very positive ways: - It doesn't have to be "installed" (just run) - It's TINY - easily …

Thanks for making all your work available in one way or another. And glad you're healthy enough to do stuff like this! Thanks, what happened to me in 2019 was a real "perception changer"! I've been in this industry since the 70's and I've written a *LOT* of stuff over the years. And being anal …

DDLINK: Easily move files between/To/From DOS systems

in DOS
I still run a couple "real" DOS systems, and also have a number of bootable DOS setups on virtual machines (including DosBox - see DBBD on my site!) The best way I've found to move files between these various systems as well as to/from newer systems is via my DDLINK (Daves Data LINK) tool - that can …

Re: DosBox BootfloppyDisk

Just in case anyone is interested... I've updated DBBD - Now includes both PCDOS and FreeDos boot images - Tools/info on how to make/add additional boot images - "Officially" supports DosBox-X - Can set window size (and misc other command enhancements) Dave Dunfield ::: https://dunfield. …

Re: My DosBox tools

In case anyone is interested: I've just revised my "patched" DosBox posted on my site. (this has ".conf" changed to .INI to avoid LongFileName issues when accessing the configuration from within DosBox using SFNs!) There are two available: DOSBOX_X new(ish) DOSBOX-X - just starting to get into it. …

Re: My DosBox tools

Is there a better place to ask fairly technical questions about DosBox? Infiguring out keymapping for DosBox-X, I've run into a few keys which are defined within DosBox-Xs default .MAP, however the keymapper shows them all as "BIND: Key" for that keycode... (not really defined within SDL?) Not sure …

Re: My DosBox tools

Dave, Quick question: I'm fascinated by your DVM.exe. Is there any chance you might make it possible to work somewhat the way that msdos-player works (http://takeda-toshiya.my.coocan.jp/msdos/index.html). In other words, could we use a command like: DVM c:\path\to\16bitapp.exe %1 %2 and run the …

Re: My DosBox tools

Hi, I've been looking at DosBox-X more, and looking to move some of my "DosBox specific" tools over to it. One thing that has changed quite a bit is the content of the .MAP file.. I like to be able to quickly and easily change certain aspects of the keyboard on an ongoing basis, and in working …
