Spotless new old stock Logitech Pilot Mouse just arrived in the mail today. This works on both PS2 and Serial ports (with the included passive adapter.) Tested it and working really well.

I have a P4 compaq evo. It has a weird circuit to detect if it is connected to a car adapter (which should give it about 14V) and if it thinks it is then it will not charge the battery. This is by design. I can only assume that 18.5V is just on the edge of confusing that circuit. 19V is safe.

I also recommend "The C Programming Language", by Brian Kernighan and Dennis Ritchie, "the 2nd edition". Before the language was standardised in the ISO standards, I remember someone telling me that C compiler writers used this book as their guide.

I had similar problems with my asus p5q board (which also has a ich10), where either the drivers supplied with the board or downloaded from the internet did not work. Ended up solving it by selecting ich9 instead, in the "F6 menu".

You can tell linux not to use the apic with the noapic option in the linux command line. If you use grub, you can press e to edit the line just before linux boots.
