I've gotten what I believe is everything in order, but I can't get the diagnose tests finished properly. When I use diagnose.exe it runs through every channel until the HIGH DMA, on which it hangs forever. I can't seem to go into CTCU and change the channel at all, am I missing something? Can you …

I think your #2 comes closest to the real truth as to why so many consider DOSBOX to be fine. These young kids didn't play the games back then; they weren't even born yet, so the experience and the zeitgeist is completely lost on them. IIRC, I meant to say that using DOSBox on modern hardware is better than using DOS on DOS hardware. I would say it depends on the use case. What if someone had an AWE32 sound card and a Rendition Verite graphics card as a kid, and wanted to replay their favorite childhood game (e.g. Descent 2) …

The sb16 is compatible with the adlib for FM sound, but it varies by model if it uses a genuine Yamaha OPL chip or Creative's inferior CQM. If you have enough free ISA slots you can just use both. If the game supports sound card sfx it should be possible to get that to work on the sb16, it's a well supported card. Does the PC speaker work in other games, you could try shareware like Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure. The speaker works fine with everything else, post beeps, commander keen sfx, etc. I …
