Re: Trying to fix a faulty DTK Pim-Turbo "8MHz Turbo Board" Rev-5 with Siemens SAB8088-2-P 8088 CPU + 640KB RAM

I was able to create a 3.5" 720KB DOS boot disk on another system, but I am now struggling with being able to boot it on the XT. My only IO controller is a 386-era 16-bit ISA 1.44MB 3.5" HD floppy controller, and it does not look like it has jumper configuration to downgrade itself to driving a 3.5" …

Re: Trying to fix a faulty DTK Pim-Turbo "8MHz Turbo Board" Rev-5 with Siemens SAB8088-2-P 8088 CPU + 640KB RAM

Be aware that you need a high density floppy drive controller to read 1.44 MB/1.2 MB HD disks. Even if you have a HD drive, it will not read HD disks without such a controller. (It will just function as a DD drive.) You do not only need a high density floppy controller (which you could find on any …

Re: Trying to fix a faulty DTK Pim-Turbo "8MHz Turbo Board" Rev-5 with Siemens SAB8088-2-P 8088 CPU + 640KB RAM

You mention you stuck an AT keyboard in it. It's an XT so needs an XT keyboard. Check if your keyboard has an XT switch on the bottom of it. You'll get nothing out of an XT with an AT keyboard. No idea what the beep codes mean, could be keyboard, could be RAM. The few DTK BIOS board I've dealt with …

Re: Trying to fix a faulty DTK Pim-Turbo "8MHz Turbo Board" Rev-5 with Siemens SAB8088-2-P 8088 CPU + 640KB RAM

I have one of these boards. I believe this is the manual: http://www.minuszerodegrees.net/manuals/Turbo-XT%20Main%20Board%20-%20Installation%20Guide.pdf ETA: Added picture of my board Really great to hear - I hope you may be lurking around in case I need help cross-referencing something. Actually, …

Re: Trying to fix a faulty DTK Pim-Turbo "8MHz Turbo Board" Rev-5 with Siemens SAB8088-2-P 8088 CPU + 640KB RAM

It's not the cause of your issue, but you are not supposed to jumper "Color 80x25" unless you use an actual CGA card. The mainboard BIOS has an integrated CGA and MDA video BIOS. The DIP switches are supposed to mean: Color 40x25: Use integrated CGA BIOS, boot in 40x25 mode (mode 1) Color 80x25: …

Re: Trying to fix a faulty DTK Pim-Turbo "8MHz Turbo Board" Rev-5 with Siemens SAB8088-2-P 8088 CPU + 640KB RAM

So I'd get a brown paper, kraft paper bag, get it folded twice (four thicknesses of paper, if you're using an edge of the bag rather than having it opened out, you've got one fold already there) then surface wet that both sides with IPA and shove it in and out of 3 of the middle slots. Sometimes …

Trying to fix a faulty DTK Pim-Turbo "8MHz Turbo Board" Rev-5 with Siemens SAB8088-2-P 8088 CPU + 640KB RAM

Hi all, I found this 8088 PC that was stored for a few decades on a shelf of a wooden cabin (out from direct rain and sun exposure, but cold outdoors storage with no insulation, so rain humidity would get in) Looking at the board, it has the following markings: 8MHz Turbo Board Pim-Turbo Copyright …

Re: Trouble installing MS-DOS 6.22 on a DeLock IDE -> CF adapter with Transcend Compact Flash 4GB 133x card

It's likely the BIOS that's the culprit. Unfortunately, I have no idea what version you're using. (copy-pasting from my other thread:) The PC is a "MikroMikko 4 m 326SX" model from a Finnish company "Nokia Data" (some kind of sibling/subsidiary at the time to the big Nokia iiuc). It has a 386 25MHz …

Re: Trouble installing MS-DOS 6.22 on a DeLock IDE -> CF adapter with Transcend Compact Flash 4GB 133x card

Update: Tried flashing FreeDOS image to the disk from https://www.pcengines.ch/freedos.htm But then at boot, got an error "Invalid or damaged Bootable partition". However, after that flash, I * was* able to install DOS from floppies, on a primary partition of size 128MB. Although kept getting write …

Trouble installing MS-DOS 6.22 on a DeLock IDE -> CF adapter with Transcend Compact Flash 4GB 133x card

Hi all, I am setting up an old 386 system, and trying to replace the spinning hard drive with a CF card. I got a DeLock IDE -> CF adapter card with a 4GB Transcend CF card. Attached photos of the hardware. BIOS recognizes the disk, but setting it to autodetect fails with the following boot errors: …
