Anything after 2012 isn't really going to be DOS friendly and frankly, you shouldn't bother with DOS when things like DOSBox and ports/emulation exist. Everything you want can be had within the Windows OS, if you're willing to do the work to put it together.

I remember buying a 512MB GPU just to play Doom 3 and HL2. Now, you could play both games - as they were - on the latest AMD APU, with the settings maxed out.

I can only think that your unit needs a reset or might be damaged in some way. An MU50 would be at end-of-life by this point, so failure is certainly likely. There are newer Yamaha XG models that can better replace it, such as the QY series.

The old Intel GPUs were never good with OpenGL and don't have the horsepower for effects settings above the most basic resolutions, so quite a few old games won't run well if you are using one.

Indeed, Valve loves Linux. Many former Microsoft employees left to work for Valve and the company was founded and initially staffed by former Microsoft developers, so they know that an alternative to Windows is a great idea for their bottom line, hence the Steam OS and other efforts.

I use the PATA/IDE flash modules meant for industrial/business hardware. It's what they are made for and they work wonderfully. Transcend has several to choose from.

JK2 and it's sequel should work fine on Windows 10. I certainly have no problem running the stock games and you can use the community mod version that gives feature updates to run better on modern systems and GPUs.
