Open-air cases are great for testing, but very impractical for long-term use, unless you have over-clocked or runs hot hardware that needs the open-air to stay functional and cooled.

Go ahead and take your time. This is obviously more complex than a DREAM-based synth card, so you might as well try some things out before you commit to mass-manufacturing. I myself have no use for the buttons and display, but I understand the reasoning behind them.
