Re: vm error [38] internal error message

in DOS
Hi! I've just happened to find your post because I also posted something about Lotus 123 in a different forum that is also hosted in this site. The forum I'm from is for the DOSBox program. The first thing you should know is that XP is the first home Windows that isn't built on DOS, but on Unix. …

Re: [ANN]: DOS/32A v7.33 is out

The ZIP file has a file called changes.txt Although the last version 7.2 is missing from there, 7.3 is mentioned with a list of updates (from 7.1?). However, all of the updates use internal technical lingo, so it's hard to tell what actually changed that the average user should care about.

Re: Lotus 123

Ok, turns out that editing works. It's just that you can't tell where the underscore is at (since it's always displayed under the cell's ID). Here's an image (including a zoom) to demonstrate the problem.

Lotus 123

DOSBox can run Lotus 123 (version 2.4) just fine...except that you can't edit the spreadsheet entries! I mean, I can get in edit mode (using F2), but then I can't move left/right and delete anything. The edit character (underscrore) is mysetriously kept under the cell ID (A1, A2, etc.) instead of …

Re: Floppy booting issues

in DOSBox General
It was already discussed here. Towards the end, you'll see we established that with a good program (like big costly winimage or little freeware disk2img) every DOS that's <= 6.22 works. Every DOS that's > 6.22 (up to XP's - thanks to WD's suggestion) eventually gives the command.com prompt.

Re: Suggestion for Website > Links

in DOSBox General
Actually, I think Home of the Underdogs is considered legit. Maybe even too legit, some would say. If anything is protected, they would mention it and try to give a link to the company (if it's still alive). So naturally, many games there are just listed without a download link. Edit by Snover: …

Re: COM1 and DOSBox

in DOSBox General
Hmm, you've summed it up pretty good... I stand corrected (and corrected some mistakes in my previous posts). But speaking of which, how come the DOSBox authors decided not to tunnel serial COM connection into TCP/IP, like the other two connections? Of course, it wouldn't have to replace direct …

Re: COM1 and DOSBox

in DOSBox General
Wait a minute, some games need modem access and some serial COM access. I've always thought "directserial" is for the latter case. So you say the "modem" setting is for both cases (modem and direct) or just for the modem? And if I enable both "modem" and "directserial" at the same time and with the …

Re: COM1 and DOSBox

in DOSBox General
DOSBox doesn't really use COM ports. It actually uses IP addresses and ports and fakes the game to think the COM port is real. So when you play the game between two computers, you actually connect through TCP/IP and not the real COM ports. DOSBox supports all the outdated connections - serial COM …

Re: Partial dosbox.conf

in DOSBox General
If you just call them "dosbox.conf", you won't have to use autoexec or associate anything to anything. DOSBox looks by default for a local dosbox.conf (same goes for mapper.txt, etc.). So you can just create a shortcut that starts in the game's directory and the only command line parameter you will …

Re: cd "something

in DOSBox General
Because you're probably on the virtual (i.e. special DOSBox) Z drive. If you want the regular C drive, you must mount it first (i.e. just enter DOSBox and write down "mount c c:\" and then go to C by entering "c:"). Read the readme, the WIKI site or this forum's guides...

Re: 0.6.2 broke Archon Ultra

Ok, here goes... In 0.63, if I: 1) I use DOS32A. 2) The conf has "core=dynamic". 3) I specify just enough cycles to reach 100% cpu usage (but NOT more!) - you can, of course, lower it after the game has successfully loaded. 4) Use absolutely NO parameters (not even /s:sblaster). Then it works... Now …

Partial dosbox.conf

in DOSBox General
Hi! Let's say I want the default conf file...except one value. The thing is, if I copy the entire file and then change the one value, it will surely cause problems by next release (since you change the conf file somewhat with each new version). The question is if I can just have a little file with, …

Re: I BOOT WINDOWS 3.1 UNDER DOSBox-0.62

in DOSBox General
Hey MiniMax, thanks for helping me give a real upgrade to the Imgmount Wiki page. But I noticed you changed all the links for image files to z:\ (e.g. "z:\>imgmount c c.img"). Don't forget that it's impossible to hold personal files on z:. It's important to note that one must mount first and mount …

Copying and pasting in DOSBox?

in DOSBox General
The DOS emulator in Windows has millions of bugs. Well, who knows it better than us? But the one thing you can always count on is the ability to copy and paste. No matter the application, no matter what, if you see it - you can copy text from/to it. Just like as if it was a native Windows …

Re: "imgmount" - yes, "boot" - no...

in DOSBox General
All the boot disks from the original page that was linked here don't work for me. But they weren't created with WinImage. It was easy to tell because DOSBox simply refused to boot them. The boot disks from the other page, that did use WinImage, work as long as they're<=6.22 . My own boot disks, that …

Re: 0.63 still broke Archon Ultra

Well, 0.63 is out and pretty much nothing has changed. Nevertheless, I did find out that in 0.62 if you have cycles>=30000, then you get as far as the first intro screen (out of three) and only then it gets stuck. In 0.63 the same thing also applies...but only if "core=dynamic" . This goes for all …
