The last creative card with drivers for windows 98 is the audigy 2. Game compatibility is very good if you use the VXD driver. Would the Audigy 2 be a better choice than the Aureal Vortex 2 for late 90s 3D gaming? Unless you plan on heavy "headphone" usage, I wouldn't bother with an Aureal at all …

Option 1: Grit your teeth and get a Voodoo3. It just works (superbly) in DOS, period. Option 2: Get a different motherboard. More flexibility, which can utilize the voodoo2, pci network, quality 2D, and get USB.

I never noticed any whine, but I do miss the BUUUZZZZZZZZZZ, then the crackling of static. Now, there’s nothing but button “taps…”. All of the personality of older hardware never made the leap into today and tomorrow.
