My asus PVI-486 with a POB83 will not recognise any dos or hard drive with an os on it. Is there info around for restoring floppy drives and cd drives? i have 2 cd drives which work just will not open without manual ejecting. i also have a bunch of FDD's plus a usb one but ,the usb in particular, cannot read each others disks.

The setup info i have found refers to the IDE interrupts or addresses (not sure which) as A B C D, what is that referring to? I have a ISA I/O card running the FDD ok as the FDC is no good. So, i have got LBA to work on a D drive (fat32) but if i put that drive in C it will give me no rom, system halted. LBA is enabled. could there be something that it can only boot to a fat16? there is no specific 13h.

im having trouble getting a 486 to use 32 bit partition. it sees the cf card as 2 gig correctly and fdisk can only see 512mb. 32 bit is enabled in the bios. with 98 or dos 7 installed it will not read the hdd and either system halts or no os errors. 6.22 fdisk only seems to have fat16. i cannot use …

per this except jp21 1-2 (2-3 does not boot) JP15 open, jp16 short, jp17 short (for 40mhz) have to check 22, 30, 31, 32

Got it to run at 40mhz on 2-2-2-2 wait 0. write back L2 is ok, but fails to boot on write back jumper for L1. Bios has it greyed out. The motherboards FDC chip was ripped off so i have to get a i/o card. a lot of the pads and traces are torn out. i have attempted relay the traces and pads but i …

At work now, but with 2-2-2-2 wait 0 i have L1 82.60MB/s L2 46.00MB/s Mem thru 34.35MB/s. i will try 40mhz from the 33 current tomorrow.

shizer. is that why write back doesnt work. edit just seen the boot screen says 256k cache with 512's in and jumpers for 512. i assume that means fake cache. also didnt have 32-bit enabled

it appears there are too many stuffed 256's than i have replacements, so it has 4 new 512's in.

That worked, but only write through, totally fails write on back. Im running a amd 5x86-133 currently. Is write back essential?
