I am surprised that your SB Pro is even working in DOS with such a fast system. In my experience those cards will start to have issues on a fast Pentium. Maybe there's something I don't know and there are ways to make them work on faster PCs, but I would look into that as a possibility.

It could also help to disable the built-in sound card in the BIOS if possible. That might free up some resources that could cause conflicts as well.

I'm certainly not an expert, but I think the general rule is to use lithium grease on metal and silicone grease on plastic.

I will say that I also really like the idea of the ROM socket on the board for XT-IDE. It's not specifically sound related, but I love the idea of saving ISA slot space. I have a system I have with only 3 ISA slots that I already want to put this card in. 😀
