There is a utility called MSconfig or something similar. It will tell you it in graphic form. Otherwise go into the Device Manager and find your sound card and check the properties there.

Are they standardized? Can I walk into a shop and ask for a "CMOS battery" or is the type of motherboard required?

Well the computer is at least 5 years old so I am pretty sure the battery is dead. The BIOS is already the "latest".

I was right and wrong about the last posted thingee. I was lookin gat the "date registered" instead. I simply overlooked the last posted date, which proves my point about hard to read text.

I don't like the low contrast text. I usually right-click on areas, such as DOS of GliDOS and have them open in a new window. I have to click on the little picture to that now. I can't tell if there are new posts in an area except by the date. I am in a whinging mood today. 😁

Search under AC 97 or similar. You need special DOS drivers to get the card 100% compatible.

Maybe maybe not. You are free to make your own opinion. You should however be aware of what you say and how it works. Words are like bullets, once they're shot off they don't come back and can do harm. I personally feel Paul's is the surperior product. That's my opinion.

Based on the number of posts I've seen I would so most of the older Tomb raider games and Cramageddon (spelling?) plus those mentioned on Paul's site. A "supported games" list is on Snover's page but it is general and not GliDOS specific.
