Re: Bootstrapping a "new" Mac Plus

The scsi subsystem on an antique mac is going to need daisy-chained adapters to slap anything even remotely new on. Also, the external enclosures for SCSI disks are $$$ these days. Zip100 *IS* indeed failure-prone, but you can still get NOS disks cheaply from amazon. I would not recommend using the …

Re: running old hypercard software

Looks like the recent versions call it "Enable MyComputer on your Mac", per this emaculation how-to. https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/basilisk_ii_setup Instead of a much more friendly folder path (like on linux builds), it wants a list of allowed drive letters to access. (Bleh!) Oh well. Just …

Re: Bootstrapping a "new" Mac Plus

Seriously. Zip 100 external (scsi variety) + silver lining https://68kmla.org/bb/index.php?threads/adding-a-zip-drive-to-a-mac-classic.15947/ It will be fully bootable. You can use the disk in a usb driven zip100, with an emulator, to create the bootable media. The disk images for the whole system 6 …

Re: Bootstrapping a "new" Mac Plus

For instance, this auction. A suitable scsi cable, and pointing basilisk II at the usb one for scsi passthrough, and you have a nice '100mb boot disk' solution. Drive for each side of the equation. See also: https://www.jagshouse.com/zipMacPlus.html After getting the foot in the door, consider …

Re: Bootstrapping a "new" Mac Plus

800k disks can only be made on a mac, or by something like a greaseweasel or kyroflux. PC floppy controller cannot read or write those sectors, but the above devices can. Getting the disk images themselves is easy. Back in the days of yore, apple had them freely available on their support ftp site, …

Re: running old hypercard software

place both files into a folder. Tell Basilisk / sheep shaver, that this is the "Unix Root" folder. https://www.emaculation.com/doku.php/basiliskii_linux_setup Copy the file out of the share into the emulated mac's HFV. should be similar with windows; but still gets called "unix"

Re: Old laptop with Sound Blaster Pro in DOS?

Furious googling for this thing suggests that it is either an: SiS 7012 ( which uses THESE drivers ) ICH4 24c5 82801DB/DBL/DBM (ICH4/ICH4-L/ICH4-M) AC'97 Audio Controller (which I cannot find dos drivers for) 3059 VT8233/A/8235/8237 AC97 Audio Controller ( Which uses THIS dos driver ) 2445 82801BA/ …

Re: running old hypercard software

That is meant for basilisk ii /sheep shaver, in the 'shared folder'. AKA 'apple double' https://www.emaculation.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11391 Hfv explorer has 'limited support' for apple double, but can also do raw copy of just resource fork, or just data fork. http://manlymania.net/RetroTech/~ …

Re: MS-DOS 5.0 and DEFRAG

Symantec had SpeedDisk, which would do that job on DOS5. IIRC, the version that shipped with 6.22 was based on SpeedDisk, but was toned down in features. An old version of Norton Utilities should have a suitable version of SpeedDisk.
